Any Experience of Changing/Replacing ECUs?
Any Experience of Changing/Replacing ECUs?
Does anyone have any experience of changing ECUs? My old one on my Z31 seems to have suffered from a rain leak and will deliver neither fuel nor spark to the engine. ( It only cranks over). I have seen a number of alternative replacements from other Z31s of the same, or adjacent year. Like mine they are non turbo and manual transmission. They are mainly from the USA and I am in the UK where mine was first registered. None have exactly the same part number. The nearest has 9 of the 10 digits the same. Only the final digit is different. Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on whether this or ones similar are likely to work? (at least to start the engine and make the car mobile). Thoughts, opinios, experience - welcome
I have the ECU part numbers per year and model type I got 15 years ago. Should still be relevant. It is attached below to this post.

Thankyou for this helpful list of ECU numbers. Of course as the list states it only applies to US bound Z31s. However the sentence at the end was particularly interesting - i.e.that some made for automatic transmission have been found to work satisfactorally on manuals. I wonder whether those for US bound cars will work on UK or Continental European bound cars. I guess I may have to take a punt on one.
