Alternator / Now rough idle?

i have an 86 300zx na. I replaced my alternator (the idiot lights would come on and stay on) with a remanufactured one. I drove the car that nite everything seemed fine. Next day, car idles really rough and then dies. And on the road, it cuts out. Im thinking FPR. I replaced it and still the same thing. I checked the computer codes - got a 23. But would the idle switch cause the car to cut out at cruising speeds. Also, is it possible that there are more than 3 connections on the alternator. I thought i say a small grnd wire hanging under the car - it was nite when i changed the alternator but could have been mistaken.

i would drive the car over to some place that'll test it for free and test the alternator.
theres a high failure rate with the VG alternators to begin with. i replaced the alternator several times in my maxima because the unit was defective. one time it happened several day after i installed it, the next time it acually smoked up about a month after i installed it but the 3rd was fine and its going into my ZX when i can get under the car.

it might not be putting out enough juice and causing this.

the other things are still possible but when you say you just replaced the alternator a flag goes up and it reminds me of my car.

thanks. Ill take the car down and get the alternator tested. did your car idle rough, die, and cut out at cruising speed?

when your alternator goes out, you car just pretty much stumbles everything goes dim and it dies, if you still have it, check the volt meter when the car is idling and post it up.

I had the started tested and it passed all three tests. so i guess i can rule out the alternator. while the car was funning, and running really rough, i measured voltage across the battery terminals and got 14.0 0 14.1 so i guess the alternator is good. ill change the o2 sensor and hope that its not the fuel pump

funny thing. i replaced the tps. the car seemed to run well. i took it out for a spin and it still hesitated at higher speeds. i stopped, put 93 octane in it and almost didnt make it 100 yards. i turned it off, restarted in about an hour and it ran almost perfect. could it be an aiv? i think i will have to run it a while on the highway and then run the diags to see what codes it throws. im thinking i have an air fuel mix problem
