Alarm system

The alram on my 85 zx will not turn off when I unlock it. The doors unlock but the alarm gets activated when I open the driver's door. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

it could be that the switch for the alarm in your drivers door is malfunctioning. It is a magnet switch attached to the lock mechanism with a bracket of plastic. It could be that the plastic has broken and therefore doesn't pivot to operate the theft switch when the key is turned.

Does the theft system engage when the drivers door is locked with the key?

Yes, I can lock only the drivers door from outside and the alarm system will engage. The key I got from the car was very worn and before I made a new copy I had to jiggle the key a lot to start the car. They barely were able to make a copy because the key was so worn. The key only works on the driver side door, and in the ignition. I can't open the hatch or the passenger side door with the key. Can nissan make a copy of the orignal key? Because I don't have the orignal.

might be able to. I know some car companies keep records of the original keys for something like this. Ford does. theres little numbers on the original keys you are supposed to write down (on mine there are) or maybe they can help you with your VIN. good luck. if not you can just have all your locks redone.
