280zx / 300zx ?
280zx / 300zx ?
G'day,
Just after some opinions...
I currently own a 1979 280zx 2+2... Has some rust above windscreen, in c-pillar join, needs full paint job, new radiator, new ball joints, interior needs major refreshing.
There is a 1984 Anniversary 300zx at a caryard... (the AU edition - not the US edition; just a non-turbo 300zx with pretty badges; no big deal especially) It has rust in the rear passenger quarter panel... beautiful interior... fairly good paint... catch is a) have been told the digital dash is dead, and that it has a leaky fuel hose that caused an engine fire.
The caryard wouldn't even start the car for me, "due to the chance of another fire". So I don't know if there are other problems...
I wont go into the $ums, as we pay a lot more for Z's in Australia than you guys do in the States... and we pay even more where I live in Darwin, NT (3000km from civilisation)...
What I'm after is people's opinions - would you go the 300zx... or keep the 280zx? Why? etc
Thanks
Travis
PS Yes, this is a duplicate of a post I made in the 280zx forum... sorry if cross-posting isn't allowed... but wanted opinions from the 280zx drivers and 300zx drivers...

hey travis, good to see a fellow aussie Z enthusiest (even if i can't spell:P) i think you should keep the 280, if the car yard isn't even prepared to kick it over for you makes me think 2 things... a) they could have a p.o.s. thats gonna blow up if they sell it and don't want the legalalities that usually follow with something of that nature... OR b) they have a really nice car that has very little wrong with it and just don't want to sell it... The other thing to take into consideration is that your gonna be in alot of dusty, dry conditions so keeping engines running smooth could be a bit challenging... i have a 87 turbo Z that i drive around in brisbane, i have replaced the digital dash twice (sencond time to anologue) and had many little things that needed replacing (leads, plugs, coil, CHTS, MAF, crank angle sensor, O2 sensor and catalytic converter.... i have had the car for 2.5 months. Also, with the sales people tellin you bout engine fires... chances are the injectors were not replaced when the recall was issued (recall was for the injectors leaking resulting in.... engine fires!) If thats the case, and say you dbought the car, you would have to drive that 3,000 km to civilisation to get the injectors replaced by nissan dealership. Your call but if you have something that ain't broke, don't fix it
