1987 300zx automatic transmission shift linkage
My shifter is not alligned properly and I'm having to shift between park and reverse to reverse, slam it into park to not roll, in between neutral and drive to get into drive. It's a real pain and sometimes the car won't start until I slam it into park 3 times and I never not use the E-brake because it will roll if it's not completely in park. I don't know how to fix this issue and can't find any parts online.

There is a adjustment undernieth, are you saying the parking pawl does not work? if The shift interlock is miss aligned, inop ,etc. It can bind too
are you depressing the brake pedal ,as required, there is some adjustment in the cable

I'm saying the indicator is completely off and also that park doesn't lock in place either.

almost sure the indicator moves with the cover slide mechanism
the locking gear selector may be cause it is not going full forward
try removing the cover slide to test IMO

Thank you for the help so far. As far as your advice in this post, how would I test this without the indicator? Am I just changing gears and seeing if park will engage naturally when shifted all the way if the gear indicator slide was defective and blocking it from going all the way forward?

You need to pull the indicator bezel off , maybe you just have debrei in the mechanism
but also the shift interlock comes into play( you have to depress the bake pedal to disengage a lock ,kids were shifting the lever ,engine running )
look for extreme play or wear inthe linkage
