1984 Z31 Turbo (Not AE)

I'm looking at buying one for $1,500 CAD, and my only problem is that it's got 260,000 miles on it.
Is it worth it or is it likely to break down?
I know it's kinda based on the car and the way it's been driven, and she's an older lady but she didn't have it since day one... she's had it for a few years and needs something a little more "economical", whatever that means. :P

It'll be my DD, which is why I'm nervous about it. I'd love to buy it for the sake of a project car, but I can't afford to get it as that AND get a car for DD...

She said it's undergone regular service intervals.
New rotors all around.
New starter.
No engine problems, sounded fine, I couldn't drive it due to insurance restrictions on her part, the boost gauge doesn't work, there's some body rust (very small), the top part of the dash is like... eaten away... the driver side T top's release button is broken... uhhhh... yeah.

I'm torn.

Insurance restrictions?? Thats a load of bs. I'd think they are trying to hide something if they said that to me.

I would offer $1100 CAD. IF you can get a test drive. Always always always test drive a car before you buy it. Especially if you're considering it as a dd. Or at the very least have them drive you around in it. Personally I wouldn't use it as a dd. 260,000 mile is a ton. But it all depends. Is it turbo converted? I thought all '84 turbos were AE.

Nobody with less than 10 years driving experience is allowed to operate the vehicle, and she's an old law abiding lady so complaining would be on deaf ears. e_e

But yes, I kinda figured.
Well, maybe something will come up and I can get it too, make it a project car.

Thats weird insurance. Are you in Canada?

Are you sure it's not an AE? It could have just had a paint job. Look in the engine bay for a number or something. I think Canadian AE's had the number in the glove box as well.

edit: is it a 5 speed?

I would tell her if she won't let you drive it (or someone you trust that has the 10 years) then you will not be buying it.

Says who? The seller, the insurance co., or the province's motor vehicle law? I certainly wouldn't buy a car without a test drive. If you can't drive it on the streets, then what about driving it in a large parking lot in the area?

not all 84 AE. I'd not pay $1500 unless it has clean exterior and interior. I see alot of 84-85 Z31s turbo go for about $500 US up to $1000
