I pay ~$8/mo for my car's insurance... but I'm 34 and it's not my daily. Shop around. Most ins companies can give you a quote in 5 minutes.

Your age and (it's a sports car) and maybe your driving record work against you getting a cheaper rate, but it's worth shopping around. No points on your license? and it stays that way? you might catch a break. But statistics tell the insuror how likely you are to cost them money in any given year - so they have to cover for that. ^$$^ Try out every company on-line and compare rates. Points against your license (moving violations, speeding, etc) are the big deal. If you're a speeder or reckless, they will know it.

Some big companies do not like to insure younger drivers so they jack up their rates for you. Nothing you can do but keep shopping. Small companies you never heard of may be cheaper but they may not handle your claim the way you like either. I would stay away from Bill & Dave's Auto Insurance.

If you own the car outright (no loans), you don't have to carry collision coverage. If you smash up the car, you either pay to repair it yourself or you dump it. If you carry collision coverage, the company will not pay you more than the total book value of the car anyway, even if the damage repairs are $10K. But if the book value is low, collision coverage isn't too expensive anyway. Your call there. 'Comprehensive' coverage will also pay you the book value if the Z disappears and is never found. Your chosen 'deductible' amount is subtracted from their payments in both cases.

Your other coverages have to be at least the minimum coverage amounts required by your state auto insurance commission (gov't) - so find out what they are. Also find out what each company considers the book value of your Z to be. You can negotiate that up a bit if you have certain improvements, mods, safety features. If you see a quote you like on line, call them up to buy coverage over the phone. My experience is that phone agent's prices are usually much lower than on-line quotes.

Thanks guys for the advice, I know it's a sports car and I'm young which will make my insurance high, but I've found full coverage insurance for my Z for $125 a month for 6 months and then $85 a month if I wish to continue thier services for as long as I desire.
