Z's and rain dont mix . . .

Well i dont know about your neck of the woods but it started raining here yesterday and right away the t-tops started leaking. Just what i needed . .I got no defroster/heat, partly my fault, a leaky Z that needs new tires bad and more rain on the way. Great, just great Its times like these i wish i had a stock slicktop

I have two '83 Zx's (one driver, one parts) and neither have leaked. Seems like they would, down here in the south where it rains and is hot. But neither leak. I try to keep the rubber moulding soft on both cars, so it doesnt crack and start to leak. I also keep my parts car covered 1. to protect the seals etc and 2. so the neighbors dont complain. I have one neighbor on one side that gripes all the time. Everytime a car goes up on jackstands, he complains. We have the V8 Miata on jackstands today, so he will probably gripe at my wife today about it. But we live in the county, so we have no restrictions, but I keep my two cars at the back of the lot and covered, so that they dont look bad.
Apollo, are your t-top seals dry and cracking or broken? Ive seen where it costs like $400 for replacement seals...

I hear ya...I did my turbo swap last year at the worst time, in the middle of the rainy season. It was months before I could really get on it. The rain sucks, we got our first last night, but i'm looking forward to taking my truck up to the snow.

another reason why it would be nice to have a Pulsar driving for the winter. I can keep the Z locked up in a garage.

all we got here in sd is a bag of wind today--sunny, cold and windy. got some good sunrise and sunset shots today--nice and crisp.
i am really gonna miss my slicktop in winter--we get rain (4-letter word) in jan--not too much before then. i guess mexico is just a bag of wind keeping the rain up in the bay area!?

I must have been very lucky. To date, of all the Z's I've owned that have T-tops, the only one that leaked was my 86 NA.

my t-tops used to leak real bad. I took them apart and reapplied the old seals with new adhesive/sealant and that stopped the leaking problem. It's not neccesarily a end-all fill-all but sealant only costs a couple bucks and it's just a phillips screwdriver and I believe a 10mm socket/rachet (could be wrong on that one, it's been a while).

Rained pretty steady here yesterday in WA. Not really a rain, more like a heavy misting......if you know what that means. Anyways I had a blast crusing around in my 83 280zx 2+2 on back roads and power sliding around turns, Although I don't believe my fellow drivers enjoyed it so much! LOL

Seriously though, My t-tops leak like a sonofabitch. When I had the car in Florida for a summer two years ago, it was IMPOSSIBLE to drive. The rain would start, the tops would leak, the windows would instantly fog up and I was screwed!!!! (No A/C = No Defroster/Defogger) I hated that shizzle!

Rod.

Lets not get into this slick vs. t's, as long as its a z its ok. Get it. And thank god my t's don't leak. Well i have no heater= no defroster and it still fogs up i must be to hot for the car... jk no it's just the muffler leaking.

oh yeah that remiinds me about another thing I did: If they're leaking at the window and t tops then the windows can be adjusted to seal better against the tops. Its really simple to do. I think it was Ice that originally gave me that tip. I had water filling up inside the door shells even. I adjusted the windows all around to sit with the weather stripping better and voila: no more leaky. Of course I never got around to doing the passenger side so that door still filled up with water

Haha, it's really not that bad. In Northern FL, it rains frequently, but usually only lasts about 5 minutes or less. Here in the central part of FL, it doesn't rain as much, but lasts a lot longer - sometimes hours - similar to Atlanta, GA.

One thing I'm still trying to get use to is the hurricanes. During the last one, a tractor-trailer was travelling directly behind me on an overpass, and was blown off of it, landing on the interstate below. That scared the bajeepers outta me.
