You know...

I just took a quick little trip up to the foe-d-stoe for some beer. Anyway, I happened to park next to a Porsche GT-3. I thought to myself, "Wow if I made that kind of money, I'd sink it in my Z." Not, "Wow, I wish I could afford that!"

So...My Z might not be the fastest, most beautiful thing on four wheels, but it sure is a fun car to own. I've had this car for about 13 years and I still feel this way...even when it decides to be a little bitch.

Anyone else feel like this?

Get yourself a turbo motor & then you won't want a Porsche... oh wait, yeah, you'll still want one.

well, its not to hard, porsche isnt all its made up to be in the handleing department, the engine location though good in a sense for balance, makes the car difficult to drive. the GT3 though and carrera GT are very very good cars, they are the exception. so good luck trying to beat one of those on a road coarse.

top gear talks crap about allot of cars that arent British .. i can tell you a porsche is damn hard car to beat on a roadcourse period .. if you think otherwise come to europe and try to beat them.. they are the cars i fear most .. and i know some pros that do .. for a bad engineered car it won an awful lot ;0

all tv shows are shown with a definite bias-----the peeps who do the show havw not driven ALL the porsches and they get to READ that which is prepared by someone else. just DRIVE one, then give yer opinions........i HAVE driven them. they drive good and hjandle betteer than any z i have ever driven. if the porsches aboot which the discussion is jabvbering aboot are the nrewer models--the audi--924 and 944, and the water cooled 928 and that ilk-----those are not porsches. those cars that dr porsche designed are porsche--HIS cars drove and handled beautifully with NO overrated pukky involved. the audi and wanna be porsches are not worthy of the name. the 914--vw-porsche--GOOD car, if NOT the 1.7, which was crap......the 2 litre was a porsche--the others, 1.8 and 1.7 are vws.....all 3 handle better than any Z i have ever driven. do not put faith in others' words unless you know the person speaking personally. and never put down a marque you have never personally driven. shows ignorance and short sightedness........i lovwe me Z but i know thgere are far better sports cars out there......this is a poor man's jag, dude----porsche is a marque with much display of the abilities over longer time than i have seen the Z be boss..........they are both fun----but do not put down the handling capabilities and such if you have never personally driven the car..........i do not feel desire to own or drive any cars----been there, done that.....but i am not selling me 50 AE......

Yeah I never tire of driving my Z. And I like the fact it can do things. And has options, that more expensive cars have. And my Z cost much less. Yes I know they are not the fastest, or best handling. But they can roll with the best of them. I say not bad for a small Japanese car. That has proved itself in the past. But even all that is not the reason, I love these cars. There is something indescribable, that can't be put in words. So all I have to say is... I love Z cars, and always will.

As for Porsches, whoever said they don't handle, is full of crap. I know they are one of the greatest handling cars out there. And have been for many many years. Now for my favorites... I have alway liked the 928s, but it has to be a 5 speed. But I also wouldn't mine the 930 Ruf Twin turbo, or the 938s. Of course the good old 911's will work too. hehe Who is dreaming now? lol

Not a Porker fan myself, sure the late model ones are fast cars but so they should be for the $. Engineering wise the Japs are better, Porsche is high maintenance and the parts prices, well....

Check this in car video out, taken at my home race circuit. Turn the volume up and about 30 seconds in..........

I've driven a 928, 968, 911 (1986 slant nose) and a 2004 Carrera 4, and I have to say, they only get better, that 911 had a clutch that made my leg hurt after 30 minutes of bumper to bumper traffic, the 928 felt a little heavy, the 968 was nice but lacked a little grunt and the Carrera 4 was smooth as silk and handled wonderfully. I don't know how they are to maintain, I don't know how hard they are to work on. I assume they are expensive in parts when they break. I assume they are expensive to insure. But I know for a fact they go fast and handle very well. I'll stick with my 1995ttZ till my income gives me the luxury of affording a 100K car.

porsches are terribly expensive to maintain. and procuring required parts can be difficult as well. my stepdad has been waiting on a water pump for his 928 s4 for a few months. and that car is even more of a pain to work on than a z32.

The old 911's handle very well in my opinion, however it's a completely different driving technique. You can't get off the gas in turns like you can with a Z. The front will try to slide when you left off so you have to keep on the gas throughout the turn. That's how alot of guys in the 70s and 80s crashed their porsches - going around hairpins. However they will hold very well through the turn and are predictable once you get the hang of them.
At highspeeds they handle much better than my 280ZX as well. They really hug the ground with all the downforce they create instead of getting floaty.
The feedback is amazing too, everything is really solid stock.

As for the clutch, I know what you mean. I think my left leg is stronger than my right...
And yeah they're expensive, someone stole the centercap on one of my wheels and it's $30 minimum just for that.
