Wiring Problems
Wiring Problems
Can someone help me on the wiring for the talking lady and the light illuminator for the speedometer, battery, oil. Im about to get an Alpine installed at BestBuy and I want to know what to tell them so they don't mess it up haha. If anyone can help please reply asap. thnx
aye caramba, its a stero install, i doubt they will fubar up that stuff, im no s130 expert but i do believe your radio harness would be seperate from any of that other stuff, or if you wanna play it safe do what i always do, dont be scared learn something and DO IT YOUSELF! then if something breaks theres no one to blame but you and you dont go threw a headach/lost casue trying to get bestbuy to pay to fix your car. lol. but really, i would just do it yourself, its pretty straight forward.
There are two or three wires that connect to the front dash speakers. If installers use a harness to connect your stereo, the talking lady should still work. If they cut into your wiring (ask if they are going to... if they say "yes" then run), then you will need to have those wires connected to the front speakers. See our Documents thread where I have posted files that include wiring diagrams: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...t=21185&page=2
wait a sec, you sent me a PM and I told you to start a thread with your question. Didn't you say that you installed a stereo and ever since you've had all sorts of electrical problems with lights and the talking lady not working?
Is your car ok right now or is it not? Take the Alpine out of there. Unplug the radio harness completely. Then see if everything else works. If it does, then just wire in the radio's power and speaker wires separate of the car's factory harness.

The only wire I 're-used' when I installed the stereo in my '80 & '82 280ZX's was the switched power.
I ran all new constant power and all new speaker wires. It's the only way to do it. The wiring in these old cars was iffy at best even when they were new. The S30's are even worse.

got it installed and everything is alright. the only problem is the random door ajar ringing when im driving and the lady saying the doors are open. and btw does anyone know the size of the speaker in the dash? i need to replace that. =/
ok, that's a good detail on the lady.
I had that problem and it was the door latch. Do you notice if your dome light comes on too when the lady talks? Your door may just be moving slightly and activating the switch in the lower rear area of the door that senses when the door is open. Either put a cap on the rod for the switch to hold it in a little further or adjust your door latch on the frame of the car to keep the door 1/8 inch closer in.

It is true, they are 4" speakers....if you want to change them and this is the first time well you are going to cuss a few times:
Tools needed!!! Phillips Head Screwdriver ( long one and a very stubby one...trust me) Ratchet and 10mm socket. A 13/16th" socket for the steering wheel I believe or a 4 way lug nut remover...that's what I use.
Disconnect the battery!! Remove the steering wheel, remove the two panels below the dash (two screws per panel...disconnect the lights on those panels) Remove the ash tray, remove the two plastic covers on either side of the front bottom radio housing..Oh yeah, set the E-Brake and move the shifter out of the way, remove the screws at the top of the dash near windshield (Phillips) TAKE OFF THE GLOVE BOX DOOR, remove the glove box (with the glove box out you can reach the right front speaker!!) Remove screws from A/C control area (hidden under top lip) Ok, bust out that Ratchet and 10mm socket...under the dash (knee area when sitting in seats) remove two per side, on each side of radio housing there are 4...remove them also. Double check to make sure they are all out...slide the radio hosing out towards the shifter, disconnect wire harness from radio and disconnect antenna...remove entire radio from car while it is still fully mounted in the housing. Give the dash a pull and it should with some effort and care come out, I flipped mine over as the A/C plumbing is still there and there and all the dash wires there so just be careful. With the dash flipped over the left (center) speaker is now accessible. REACH BEHIND THE DASH AND REMOVE THE SPEDO CABLE!!! Push then twist!! This has to be done before the dash will come all the way out.
The A/C ducting is a pain to reconnect so be patient and you will get it. Also, with the dash flipped over you have access to all the dash electrical connections...this would be a good time to clean them. The dash light are now visible and can be replaced if needed...the ones with the orange dots!! You can remove the orange covers from the bulbs and have whiter lights for your dash like I did. Take your time, set everything in a safe place as you work, label screws and bolts for location if you like, it helps. Keep an eye out for hidden wires and little things that may still be attached to the dash as you work....it seems like alot but...well it is but it's not that bad once you have done it like 9 times like I have. Have fun!!
Your door warning thing may be going off if the bushing on the striker is worn or missing, when you open your door, look in the door sill to the right if on the drivers side on the actual body of the car, not the door.

Do it, its easier, and less likely to catch fire. Thats if you have basic skill. I just hooked mine straight to the battery, to th edeck to the speakers...easy as pie....until your pushing too much power, and your car don't want to work....happpened to me.....bigger alternator is the solution......but you don't need to hear this...just do it.
It is funny we are talking about this....since I hooked up the Rockford Fosgate Power 6 1/2's I have been smelling burning wires...but only when the stereo is playing...I am using the factory wires....time to re wire all my speakers....I don't need to be driving down the road in a gold ball of fire listening to Highway to Hell!!!
