found the car in a local newspaper. Guy was asking 2000 obo. I got it for 1500 and drove it home. It was a good running car with some minor bodywork needed and a simple electrical problem. The electrical problem did not keep it from being a reliable driver though. I've had the car 9 years now.

My first Z was the 300ZX Z31. I found it in the back of the school my friends went to. The autoclass guy let me have it for free. Only got to drive it like 30 miles before the heads ended up going. We would have fixed it, but the body was in horrendous condition. It was what really got me into the Z cars and is what helped me to learn how to do work on cars. As for the condition when it started it essentially was a parts car.

Found mine in the online autotrader ads. I got it for 1500 bucks, had no glass except for the windshield, the interior was pretty much non-existant and multicolored, and the radiator was dead. Oh and the tires were just about to explode from being dry rotted haha. It's a daily driver though.

Highschool shop teacher... $500, back in 1996. That was actually the most I ever paid for a Z. I've bought 8 other 280zx's for never more than $400, and I bought my '70 240z for $475.

Car lot in downtown Mesa, in May of '00. It was my '81, and I paid $2900, after the trade-in of my truck $2200. Which was too much, but I loved it, until I munched the front end on it, in May '04. And then in October of '03, I got a nicer one, my '82 which I am currently restoring. $200, and it ran rough, the interior was trashed, and has some body damage. Picked him up in somebody's backyard, rescued him from certain doom. But hopefully soon, he will run like a top. Within the next couple of weeks.

675 from a salvage yard here in oakland. Body was cancerous and the suspension was shot but the motor ran great and the interiror was black and in beautiful shape. I had orginaly wanted a 240 or early 280 but I couldnt turn that price down.

I got mine last year for about $500. It's an 83' Turbo. The motor and most everything else were in pretty good shape but it needed body work at the time.

Picked up my ZedSled from my older brother for $free.fifty-free. She's an '81 2+2 T-top. Been diagnosed with cancer [has been since I've known of her existence in the family], and she'll be getting put to sleep soon. Sad, I know.

On a lighter note, I'm picking up a friends' dad's '82 slicktop 2+2 for $2000, which comes with a spare T5 trans, R200 diff, and '82-spec P79/F54 L28E. Under the hood, sits a very well-built N47 block and head from a '77 280Z, which was at one time built for SCCA road racing. This motor ticks out an estimated 220hp @6000, with a redline of 7500+.

I'mma enjoy that one.

Got mine from the original owner whom I had known for many years and was a good customer of mine. She maintaned the car very well mechaincally, but the body and interior were in sad shape. It was ugly. It was Gold with tan interior. It had four bald tires and a massive exhaust leak as well. She told me she had to get rid of it but she hated to get rid of her baby. She wanted way more than it was worth and I knew it was too much, but I went ahead and gave her 2500 for the car. Within a month I had put about 5k more into it and a whole lot more since.

Rod.

parts trader. Looking for a new Z and found a 240Z for $800 running. It was at a tow yard. I went down to check it out, drove 2 1/2 hours, and it was already sold. I got there 2 1/2 hours after they opened too. I called the guy from a cell phone at opening time and he still had it. He said I could look around at the other cars. First car I saw was a 280ZX they had in their shop. Wanted $800 for it with a blown tranny. No beans. I told him $500 and I get to put in the tranny from the 280Z they had in the yard. Swapped the trans right there in their yard and took it for a test drive. Fell in love. Took it home.

No wonder why J is building a Z-Shop. He just does a tranny swap in the junkyard as if it were no big deal. I wish I had this man's talent.

I got my Z in Hampton, VA for about $1500. It was mostly garage kept and for the most part I keep it in the garage every night. But it's a daily driver. I bought it from a guy who was getting stationed in Korea. And I always wanted an ol' skool import from my days in Okinawa, Japan.

My first Z was supposed to be a 280zx but I had title trouble and just got the title a couple of weeks ago. I got the car for free because I did a **** load of work on a building which took 3 weeks there was so much to do.. So I got a Z31 300zx first and I traded my 79 Cadillac (paid $1000 for it) and paid $300 also.

I was going to bring up that thread...

I still think it ought to be a "sticky"

You know, for nostalgic reasons. Then when ever I feel like letting it all out I can stop in and read the sticky. it will always be right there at the top of the page. I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now

You were right Rod. I need to start getting to bed earlier so stop typing crap like this
