whats my z worth?
I am going to have to get rid of my n/z 81 z. I payed 1300 for it but was over priced. in curent condition i have about 100,000 miles on it, flat black paint, brown interior that needs to be replaced for the most part, broken heater valve, no cat, broken window motor, and an exhaust. I love this car and would hate to get rid of it for almoste nothing, right now I wold like to get 1,000 for it.
so really my question is, what do you think she is worth? Or what low cost repairs can I do to increase sale value?

At only 100,000 miles if it's still running strong with no mechanical issues then $1000 is a very fair price. Thats as long as it doesn't have any major issues. Paint and interior in good shape are hard to come by on these cars and when you they usually go for more then what you're asking. Of course theres always deals to be had but overall I'd say your asking price is fair.
if i were you and had the money to do it, replace the valve, motor, cat and exhaust, as cheap as you can get them, like on ebay or something, just clean it the best you can, with the low mileage on the car, i'd pay at least 2500. spend at most 400 bucks for parts and get double that in return aint bad, and if you maybe 500 more, just get some black dye, and dye all the tan carpet peices black, i did that once, and called it a two tone look, guy loved it and bought it, wasnt a Z, it was a nova, but thats all just a couple tips and if you have the money to do it. good luck on the sale.
Like J said, concentrate on the interior. Scour the bone yards, looking for any pieces that are in better shape than yours. Clean the rest of the car and put it out there. Most car buying is always a impule buy. They see it and want it.
where can I find the black dye and how dose it work? Is it a paint on or do i soak it? my bigest conscern is the window motor and cat. the window motor will cost $250 new and cant seem to get on on e-bay. Is there any way to test on I find at a junk yard?
also if any of you guys have any intearior parts in good condition you want to get rid of send me an e-mail at mk1matt@yahoo.com I can not afford parts until taxes come back so if you send me something I may not respond until I can buy.
man I really hate to get rid of my Z
, but once I get my bills taken care of I hope to get a turbo 280 or even a early 300.... never got to do my rb swap either

Dude, leave the carpet pieces alone, unless they are trashed / destroyed, in which case dont leave it in the car when you show it.
You dont want to spend more money on it before you sell it. You will then be hoping to recover the money spent further as well as the original $1000 you wanted for it. In the end it may all be for nothing.
The usual Zcar buyer is one who cares enough about a Z to buy one if given the right chance. The things you talk about are not major issues, they are trivial to a Z guy/gal. If they are coming to see a ZX with a $1300 asking price, they are not expecting a finished project. Dont sweat it.
My suggestion is....Put it up for sale for $1300. When you have someone show up for a look tell them what you bought it for and what you have done to it thus far, show the bill if you have to. Tell them what you know it needs and tell them that you will knock off $300 off the price for them to replace the needed parts.
Forget about a dye for the carpet. Knowing your average person's luck you will end up worse then you started and behind on the money spent on the dye.
Just CLEAN it well!
Shampoo the carpet (Rent one of those portable shampooers from Home Depot, pros use those and swear by them. I was told $2500 for each of those machines so they do the job well....When you're done your car you can do your sofas or carpets in your home
)
clean the seats (clean ripped ones show better then dirty ripped ones)
Armour all the dash and doors and trim (Same as above applies)
Windex the glass or whatever your prefered glass cleaner is.
Wash the car well, (maybe some compound polish you may have laying around can liven up the paint a bit)
clean the tires and wheels
...........And use plenty of Cheap labour (thats you!
)
