whats the cost of parts in the us?
hey guys
haven't been on for a while, tying to have a serious go at prepping the zed for tarmac events.
what price do you guys pay for the relevant gear to convert a n/a to turbo over there? and about how much does it all weigh? still looking at a cheaper option to get it there as I can't find a single wreck in australia atm and if they are they go before you know it

just want to convert a non turbo motor to turbo? really depends on what route you want to go, jsut use a full stock setup with stock electronics? probably between 300-500 and total weight will be around 60 lbs with the turbo manifold and downpipe then adding in the miscellaneous stuff like harness and electronics.
yeah just a straight swap over, not looking for a big build. just a few etra hp from a turbo running low boost. whats stock boost? was only going to run 5 or 6 psi anyway then source a cooler over here. Is the downpipe anything special? otherwise i could get a exhaust store to fabricate one over here
if i change ideas down the track its easier to find turbo heads over here as lots came with them but no turbo gear

well i've been looking into it and i should have done this before the global crisis. they want over $600 for postage on a 70 lbs package. however i found this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=110364706017
could source piping, cooler and downpipe here. Just need ecu loom and dizzy. i need to get some other parts too so i wouldnt mind getting it all in one hit. need to get the rod that connects door lock to locking mechanism but might just get whole new handle assembly, then the under seat boxes for the cruise control and the y peice that controls the flow to the heater core in the cabin

It is very feasable to turbo a Non-turbo block and head. I would do the later style closed chamber head. Better quench but higher compression. P79/F54 with flat tops
at 8.8:1 compression you wont' need much boost to get some good power. the factory 6.7psi should be good and bump you from around 130whp to maybe 190whp with more torque than that.
The basics for the 280ZX would be the exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe, distributor, wiring for fuel injection, AFM, ECU, injectors.
J-pipe on the intake and the factory turbo downpipe are optional. Those could be custom made at a local exhaust or machine shop in your country.
Fuel injection could also be done with 300ZX turbo parts. ECU, MAS, crank angle sensor, and wiring could come from a 300ZXT in the US. You still need the 280ZX turbo distributor though.

I did a little calculating on FedEx's website.
Washington to Perth with a 25" x 20" x 10" box at 70 lbs is $550 for their economy shipping. I think everything I mentioned would fit into that box and weight.
Not too bad since you can't get that stuff in your country. The parts themselves would be less than $500 so you're talking about $1000 USD to convert to turbo.
For the price that guy is charging for just the turbo and manifold you could get all the parts in the US. (if someone here will help you)
