DVD's cost more than VHS...why is that?
How is it that a DVD still cost more to buy than a VHS tape? There are no mechanical parts to a DVD, it is smaller, more simple and easier to make. I think it is just a little strange that something with non moving parts cost more than something that requires many more machines to make it. I have compared the guts of a DVD player to the guts of a VCR...again, many more moving parts in a VCR than in a DVD player. Maybe it's just me but DVD's aren't new technology anymore so why are DVD related items still costly compared to VHS? Lets look at prices, I went to Crutchfield.com and the most expensive stand alone VCR is $129 where as the most expensive stand alone, single disc DVD player is $3,799.99
which brings me to another question, why the hell is almost everything we buy priced at $XXX.99??? or $XXX.98?? JUST MAKE IT AN EVEN NUMBER, watch, I can do it, if my zx was for sale it would be $2,500.00<---SEE!!!! Ok, I am done ranting now.

yep, all about supply and demand. And i think the reason why things are
$xx.99 and $xx.98 are so retailers can say "for less then $100 you can own X" and the price is, of course, $99.99. And also it probably stems back to the days when most things cost less then $1!

Indeed... High demand = high prices.
And the big companies complain about piracy. Hum... if you didn't price gouge, you wouldn't have as many people copying movies & music. But if they didn't price gouge, the big-wigs of the companies wouldn't be able to buy their billion dollar homes, and have $100 steaks every night.

It is going to be hard for anything to play audio CD's as clearly as FIVE Burr Brown converters...some people just like better things...I would assume as you do or you wouldn't spend $7,000 to fly a plane, am I right?

I personally watch about 2 or 3 movies a month, so spending more that $100 for a DVD player isn't something I do. On top of that... I just download DIVX movies from the interwebnet & play them on my media computer hooked to my livingroom tv.

you can actually buy a separate HD DVD player for the Xbox360 as well...my roomate has it (yes, he's loaded....he got himself a 46" flat panel plasma for Christmas). The Denon plays 1080i, 720p, etc etc....everything. It's not a typical DVD player. The blue ray player is a DVD player too, but a whole different thing...just like this one you posted.

i work in AV. i play with HD this and that all day. i have heard $200,000 speakers. it's not worth it really. i still would take a good plot over special high def effects and all that. and i do like nismo, all my AV goes throug a PC. no discs to scratch. no shelves full of various equipment. i can even stream any of my movies, music, tv (live or recorded) to my phone or laptop.
