What is the power band L28E?
Ok, I was driving my car most of the day today and tonight. I have been playing the CD player pretty loud also, so I haven't really heard the engine but what I did was notice the "feel" in the pedal. I have noticed that near 3,000rpm the engine get a little kick and pulls just a bit better than the lower rpm's below 3,000 or so. It does this with the pedal in the same position, or should I say as I hold the pedal steady while the engine gains speed.
So where does the L28E start to make its torque in the rpm range? Is it around 3,000rpm? Is there an rpm range that is a little weak on this engine, or a hole in the powerband? Let me guess......it is a fuel problem....
....no it pulls good, no sputters or knocking or whatever......oh and by the way...I have the fastest street legal 1982 Inca Gold 280zx with red and black interior with 15" Eagle rims and 96,000+ miles on it and a Sony single disc CD player! What, you don't belive me....it's true....before I get the new tires I am gonna make one evil single tire fire burnout video for all to see...4,000rpm in 1st gear...I will try for 120 seconds.

That's a pretty standard curve for a well tuned NA 2.8 L6. Although there is a slight 'bump' at 3200 rpm, that's pretty much just an anomaly.
You'll notice peak torque is right at 4000 rpm and peak HP is right at 5200. That is a classic L series power curve.
The best part is, they make 80% of their max torque from about 22 to 2300 all the way to 5600. That means, you have no less than 80% of your max torque through nearly 3500 rpm out of a 6500 rpm redline.
That's a nice smooth torque curve with power from casual cruising speeds to crazy fast speeds.
