What makes this sound ... ?

http://www.speedshopthagard.com/pics...rbo/240ztt.wmv

^Watch that, then tell me what that "AAAAAOOOOOOooowwwwww" sound is. Yes, the very sound everyone in the grandstand imitates.

My guess is compressor surge, or the wastegate. I've heard an S13 Silvia make this exact sound on only 16psi, so I'm fairly certain high boost isn't a factor. I could be wrong though.

Whatever it is, I want my Z to sound like that. I do plan on turbo-ing my old block [from my current Z] and swapping it into my new Z [well, not mine YET]. That is, of course, if Vegaz doesn't get my motor first.

Let me know what you guys think.

-Dave-O

P.S. ... SS Thagard builds some mean ****!

I couldn't really tell if that was coming from the 240z (kinda sounded like a dog yelping )... but it just sounded like the BOV releasing... and it happened when he lef off the throttle

BTW... that engine was for sale on ebay a couple months ago... dunno if it ever sold, but that guy built that engine about 5 years ago.

Yeah that's the BOV. They don't all go "whoosh" Some are tuned to sound different. I know theres one on the market thats supposed to sound like R2-D2 and that could be it or something like it. Did sound like there was something else mixed in with it though.

Wastegates are usually not so high pitched as that. It could've been compressor surge mixed in with the sound of the BOV though. Did sort of sound like a mixture of both.

That's a pretty sweet set up he's got there. Sounds pretty evil too. Through the 1/4 at 132 MPH... takes my car about 1 minute and a half to get there!!!!!

Don't forget though, that L-Dub's mean machine has only seen the street from inside the confines of a shop for the last ten months... He's got the fastest car in the world that doesn't work...

Haha, that "wooooo" sound in the middle of the video sounds like some woman near the camera just making that noise.

"For Under twenty dollars your car can sound like it's turbocharged. If you just want to have fun..."

WTF? If you really want to have fun you need to get a real turbo

You've got to have audio to understand what I just wrote
