Welp, I guess I'm the new guy... how 'bout some assistance?

I just bought an '82 280ZX N/A 5spd t-top car this past week (bought it from Ryan82ZX) It's got a lot of problems (rust, driver's door lock doesn't work, passenger door doesn't open from the outside, passenger seatbelt won't release, etc.) but the car's great, and just seems to suit me better than anything else I've driven.

So anyway, anybody know where I can get a new passenger seatbelt assembly? My car's brown with a tan interior. I figure that's the most crucial thing. Then I'll figure out how to get the driver's door apart to replace the mechanism and get a new piece to reconnect the outside handle for the passenger door later on.

Who cares how much is wrong with the car, it's quite possibly the best $550 I've ever spent! Two friends, my mom, and my sister all say I should restore the car and keep it around for a long time, and I think I agree..........

Nice site guys, this place is pretty cool!

Welcome!

Too bad you weren't around a few months ago. After I switched the interior in my car over to black, I had two really good seatbelts in that color. I kept them for a while, but figured I'd never need them. I got my black ones though from a junkyard for about 15 bucks each, and they are perfect. That tanish brown color was way common too, so you should be able to find them pretty easily. Good luck and have fun with the Z!

Rod.

Welp in a way i know how you feel. My passenger seatbelt works. but driver down't. due to my driver seat is out of a turbo, and not my orig seat. so it don't even fit.

Fubar, what's your seat out of? The turbo 280zx should have the same seat mounts as the non-turbo 280zx.

Now that's funny! I open the chat window and put it aside thinking I'll check back later to see if someone else has joined and forget all about it!

I currently have 32 windows open!

Can you imagine how I loose track of one or two?!

Sorry,

The piece he's lookin for is the belt assembly. The self tensioner is stuck and won't release.

Check the spring inside the seat belt. My passanger seatbelt in my old 280zx had that problem and the spring inside had broken inside (weird) and just needed replacing. Not saying that will be your problem but it may, as weird as it seems.

FIXED!!! Got a red seatbelt from another '82 in a junk yard yesterday, mixed and matched some pieces, and made my tan one work. Got the piece to make my passenger door open from the outside again, too (thanks to Ryan for the help, especially with the door, which kicked my butt the week before).

Next on the agenda: BALLJOINTS!!
