mine never came on but it was real quiet. i know it works because i hooked it up to an old PSU and it came on, not a whole lot of air commin out of it, mabe that was the issue.

i also wonder if you had a non webbed manifold if the heat would be less of an issue seeing as how the webbed would catching the hot air comming up and not really let it go any where as the non webbed one would let it by between the piping

well id figure you would want the heat to leave through the hood ducts, cause if the webbed mannys hold the heat it would probably pass through the head into the manny through conduction, but isnt the manny made of aluminum? probly depends on if you sit in traffic or are on the interstate/long distance race or short race

i just know that if you get aftermarket headers your going to get a hotter engine bay

the aux cooling fan comes on after the car has been turned off. it is wired with a relay to the thermotime swich just like nismopick said to cool the intake after the car has been shut off. it stops vapour lock when the car is sitting when the fuel pump isnt supplying a new fresh flow of cooler fuel to the rail. engine heat actually increases when the car is sitting and not running. ive had mine off for years, as well as many others, no problems have occured, but i dont live in nevada or arizona, so i dunno. its usually the first part you rip off and never put back on. if you read the haynes, or my fsm, it tells you these things you know!!!

let me make it somewhat official, you dont need the fan, as you are not going to be doing 125mph at 6k rpm through death valley at high noon in august at 123 degree's with the AC on. but in reality, the early z's experienced vapor lock in high heat due to the exhaust being right underneath the intake manifold and just poor engine bay ventilation, but what nissan forgot in the s130 is that they added hood vents and the airflow through and out the engine bay was basically completely changed....

(or atleast thats what i always thought)

How do you know I won't be driving at 125mph at 6k rpm through death valley at high noon in august at 123 degree's with the AC on?

Well... I guess I don't have A/C..

lmao

I took mine off when I got the car and it has never given me a problem. The car starts right up on any 120* day here in AZ, can't say the same for how it does in the winter though, lol. Mine also has aftermarket headers and no heat shields... so yeah, you don't need it.

I have experienced vapor lock... however that was because my injectors leaked and it allowed the fuel pressure to lower and reduce the boiling pressure.

My fan doesn't work... it only turns on after the car has cooled off and will run until the battery is dead.

Since I put in the new injectors I have had no vapor lock problems
