Wait what?

UPDATE AGAIN 7/17
-------------------

So the new shop called me, "Calipers are not bleeding man. I doubt you need the master cylinder on your clutch and honestly the slave looks pretty new...I am going to try bleeding it first."

So Brakes probably just went from 654 to 288.
Exhaust dropped 100 dollars and the guy doing it is a master welder.
I think he is doing the seat for free (Hope anyway)
And I might not even need the m/s swapped.
The only reason I did not attempt the bleed was that I could NOT move that freaking screw...anyway...I will let you know.

So, I finally get some prices from the shop...

Rear Brake Job: 635.64
Master and Slave replacement: 237.22
Exhaust- 415.
Inspection 52.45
And apparently the brake light switch...is out... 42.50
That does not factor the seat in...WTF AM I rite?

They are telling me that the calipers are "leaking" but the pedal is firm and I have seen no evidence of that.
The rotors are some magical composite and apparently cost a fortune.

Oh but wait...I worked for a CAR FLEET COMPANY authorizing repairs...
Sorry those calipers (assuming both sides are leaking) are 138.99 total.
The rotors are 67.98 total.
Pads are 39.99
So...brakes are what 1.5 according to Mitchell? That is 129 per hour?

***** I say!
I called someone who works at another shop that I had exhaust work done and when I gave him the prices he said, "What kind of truck do you have now?"

=|

Auto Zone or Pep Boys sells a slave for about $25. It takes a whopping 15 minutes to take the old one off, put in the new one and bleed it.

yeah slave cylinder is easy. I had to do a slave cylinder on my 76' it took me about 20 minutes to do this. Mind you I did this without a repair guide or anything. The bleeding took me like an hour, I really wasn't sure what I had to do and kinda figured it out along the way. A bunch of time was spent wondering why the clutch was getting softer, until I realized that I had run out of fluid in the cylinder...

No kidding.

I could if I had the space to do it atm but I do not. Like I said I called another shop and he laughed the guy off.

I am going to make this shop tow the car to the other shop at their expense and my threatening. It is the most blatant gouging I have ever seen in my life.

Not only is this "quote" almost two weeks in coming but it does not include everything discussed. I am pretty disgusted.

Holy crap man, that's a pretty hefty estimate. Rear brakes shouldn't cost that much. Same with the slave replacement. It's a 30 dollar part and takes about 45 minutes to replace and bleed. They must have a sloth doing the work. I'd definitely get a second opinion at a different shop.

Yeah, but you probably won't get them to pay for the tow. But it would be worth it for you just to get it out of their hands. They figured you can't drive it away, so you're a "trapped" customer and they're trying to take advantage of you.

What's the shops name and where is it located, just so we can document it and warn anyone else who might be considering them to stay away!

The name of the shop is "Bear" in Hainesport, NJ.

Thankfully (such drama with this damn car) they are finally looking at it at another shop. They said the brakes are going to be close but he can make up for it on other work.

I have some bad news for this shop. If their brake price is even CLOSE to the other shops I am just buying a set of loaded calipers and doing it my GD self.

Never went in for the brakes...
=|

That shop just...ugh...and they took a chunk out of my tire towing it somehow...

And now the brake light switch =P (What they must have meant to say was "We took the fuse out of the spot so your horn and brake lights would not work.")

But whatever it is home now =D
