Value of 83 na auto tranny ?

I am looking at a 83 NA with an auto tranny with 105k on digital dash.
I only need the engine and dash for my car. What could I expect to get for a NA Tranny with 105k? Trying to lower my payout.
Thanks.

not much. first you have to find a buyer. you shouldn't have to pay much for the donor anyway. the s130 is probably the hardest z to sell. slushbox tranny are suspect no one wants them.

rogerz is right again

No one wants automatics, many like you will pull them and get rid of them. I have been hoping to find a 2+2 zxt automatic, just to get the engine and ecu for a turbo swap, and then I will try and get rid of all the parts I don't need. After a while a guy starts accumulating parts when he has a few donor cars.
I would post it on teh 280zx parts site on Face Book, occasionally someone will be looking for one. Good place to meet other Z drivers, and its a bit chattier than this site. Funny thing, Nismo is moderator of several of them too !

It's worth more for it's weight at the scrapper than for anything Z related.

I figured someone out there that drove an '83 na automatic would need a replacement for like $200 bucks. I found an '83 automatic na with 105k, digital dash and non-cracked dash. He wants 2k for it. I just want to replace my blown engine 178K, partially working digital dash and cracked dash. Is $2,000 reasonable? I offered 1500, he laughed.

sure

2k is a good price, the low miles, good dash, if you are going to part it out. Would be a shame if its a good driving car to part it, but if you had to get all the parts individually, you would spend more, and most likely you will need other parts off it too, and what you don't use, sell. if it's a complete rust bucket, than I would have no problem talking him down. Did you go look at it ? Cash in hand is always a motivator, he might have said no on the phone, but let him see the cash, might motivate him. The best thing to do is go see it, crawl under it, point out all the flaws, if he does not know you are parting it, don't mention it. Act as if you want to restore it, go on in detail about all the money it will cost to fix, make him feel that $ 1000 would be fair, but since you are felling generous, 1500 is doable.

full price

The only time I ever paid asking price was on a little truck I bought, he wanted 900$, and I met his pregnant wife, now that is a bargaining chip.. I felt sort of guilty possibly taking food from a babies mouth, you might say. I asked him if he was willing to bargain, he said ya, make me an offer.. so I said.. Ill pay what you want, and congrats on the new baby ! if you have a pregnant wife, bring her along.

The car has been in his family since day 1. He knows what he has and feels like the price is dirt cheap.
I am looking for ways to recoup some of my money.
Yes i hate to salvage a good condition Z, but i also dont want to drive an auto, when all this is going in the silver and black car in my signature.
I figured for $200 if someone needed an auto, 105k would go pretty quick.
I dont want to sell off anything that i may need but anything related to the auto tranny like center console etc i could move. Yes the car has a great body and interior (from pics that is) but my plans are to cover and store it and if i need body parts or anything - t-tops etc. i dont have to buy them.
Also, i am 55, so no pregnant wife or at least i hope not.

I have a 1982 ZXT 2+2 automatic you can have for $8k. Only 67k miles, one repaint. Might be too nice (and expensive) to part out though. I bought it because the automatic is faster than the 5 speed in a turbo car.

What do used 280ZX transmissions sell for these days?

When I had a 3-speed auto to sell, nobody would give me $20 for it. 5-speeds were worth only $200 a few years ago.
I ended up taking the auto in with some scrap metal to recycle. (2008)
