Trim color match to car?

Hey, I got a 82 280ZX NA. I'm in the process of painting it black cherry pearl. Since the trim/mouldings is a flat black I thought about painting it the same black cherry. I'm going to sell it once I'm done, and probably someone who wants a classic would buy this. Is it a big deal to some of you guys that it has to be original? I'm not talking about the chrome trim, but the trim on the doors and bumpers. Almost everything else on the car is original, but I need to repaint the trim anyway (it's all scatched up and faded). My question is, if you were looking for a 280ZX to buy would it turn you off if they were repainted the same color as the car?

If you are going to portray it as a "classic" when you sell it, then no, you shouldn't do anything to it that would deter from it's original / stock "from the factory" status.

Having said that, unless it's a very low mile chassis, and in virtually perfect shape, an 82 n/a isn't worth any more than any other 280zx... aka no "classic car" value.

those rubber bumper/door guard trim things?

i just removed them off of my z. bumper and everything are going to be painted solid color. i've always thought that those trim pieces hid the awesome lines that these cars have.

it might float your boat, but it might not float the boat of the guy that might be a future owner. best bet is keeping it original.

I agree with the first guy, don't touch the trim, keep it stock, spray painting them the color of the car defeats the purpose of them, its like making the emblems the body color, just take them off if you want them to look like the body, but know there a pain to put back on with any kind of quality, if you want good resale value, make sure its basic problems are taken care of: no leaks, engine runs like a top, de-rust it, then do the cosmetics. good luck selling it lol. theres a 280z on craiglist in my area, completely torn down and rebuilt to be just like factory, and its only going for 8200, its been on there for like a year lol

Well I'm not looking for $8200, I will probably sell it for around $3500. It will be 100% rust free, new brakes, engine runs extremely well with some new parts, it has 145K miles, will have fresh paint and a perfect body, interior will be almost mint, and everything else is there.

The whole thing is that the car isn't that original, it has the turbo hood (tried looking for a NA hood, but couldn't find one), turbo center console, and a few other little things. On some of the front trim by the bumper it looks like the last owner ran into another white car, but it has white paint scrapped on it. I have all the trim off the car when I paint it, so I guys I will just clean the trim up and put it back on. Did it originally have clips that hold it on, because it has the holes in the fender and door? Mine were just held on by double back tape. Thanks for the advice guys.
