Temp Sensor + Engine Fan Question

My temp sensor is not working. I took a look at a couple of the other threads and i'm not sure of the problem I think it is the gauge but I thought I'd ask you folks first:

I took a look at the sender under the dist. and I have 2 wires, one is yellow the other is kind of yellow. Plugging both in (one at a time) does nothing for the gauge, still reads not. However when the less yellow wire is plugged in, after the car is shut off the vents over the top of the intake blow out air? Is this normal? What temperature does this happen at? It does not happen when the car is on.

Any help would be appreciated.

It also looks like I have a small exhaust leak out of the headers bad gasket I assume... Immediate repair or can it wait, how much power would I loose?

Thanks for the help!

Lol I did but to be honest couldn't determine if it was the sensor or the gauge. Not sure what "section" to look in as well... I need a guide on how to use the FSM
