tail lights

Howdy ya'll! I'm the new owner of a beautiful silver 82zx and love everything about it, except (forgive my blashphemy) i think the look of the backside leaves a little to be desired... has anyone ever seen or heard of black (smoked-out) tail-lights? or anything else to stand out a little more? just curious.

Congrats on picking up a Z, the addiction starts now! If you want to smoke your tails out, you're gonna have to do it yourself, they don't have any custom black out lenses made for Z cars. Check out my page in Cardomain, pg. 2 and pg. 8 show my lenses. That should give you some ideas. If you go to the MSA show later this month, feel free to talk to me.

thanks for welcoming me, but the addiction started when i was about 10. (which wasn't too long ago, cause my Z was"born" in 82, the same year as me!)

ya, I agree with you on the tail lights. I haven't changed mine although I would probalby go for a compeltely new look instead of just blacking them out. I hope yours turn out nice.

Thanks for the comments on the Z. The lights, you can buy the spray in a can, it from a company called Niteshades, or you can find the Japanese versions which come in various colors. (like the silver I used to have on) Group5 in San Diego sells the Japanese version. Anyway, you just have to clean the surface of the lens really well, make sure it's completely dust free and won't be near anything that'll make them get dusty while they sit. Just spray a few light coats on and you should be good to go. Don't go super dark cause the lights won't shine through and that's bad news, especially since it'll be a fast way to get a fix it ticket. I only used 2 coats total and it's fine for me.
The ribbed lights won't make a difference. I used to have them too, but switched them out for the early tails. The best way to see the effects of the spray as you doing it, is look at them from an angle in the sunlight, not straight on.

That would be a neat trick!! I've never really cared for my rear light setup, also....

The only thing is...I hope the light output is high enough (reverse lights) so you can see when going in reverse. Otherwise, you'll need to put some small fog lamps at the bottom fo the bumper.

Skully, if you do the tail light thing, you def have to post pics! Are you going to use LED's or regular bulbs for the lights? I think LED's would look sweet.

Norrbr, Group 5 is a tuner shop in San Diego, from Vista... Is the 5 or 15 closer to you? Anyways, head south till you see the exit for Miramar Rd. If you're coming off the 15, you go east towards the military base. Go past teh base. Take a right on Dowdy Drive and Group 5 should be on your left, it's sorta hard to see since it's a small suite. If you're coming from the 5, you take the 805 exit Miramar head west and take a left onto Dowdy and Group 5 will be on the left. Same as before. Here's the street address: 9210 Dowdy Drive Suite C. If you need better directions let me know. Or if you head to the Racelegal stuff at Qualcomm tonight, I'll be there. (racelegal.com)
