Strange door sensor problem. Any ideas?
Hey all, for awhile now, my '82 Turbo keeps having the "Door" warning light on all the time, even though everything's closed securely. However, the talking lady does not say anything about a door being open, making me think it's some kind of separate sensor or error causing the "Door" light to go on. I think it's also affecting my car alarm, tricking it into thinking the door's always open (when armed, it chirps a warning that a door is open). Does anyone have any idea what might've caused this fake "door open" warning that somehow doesn't set off the talking lady?
Pull the rubber grommet off the door pin switch & make sure the screw is tight & there is no rust preventing ground. Also, it would be a good idea to take out the screw & pull out the pin switch to make sure all the wires are still good & that the spring & retainer haven't broken/cracked.
I checked the door pins and they seem fine. Besides, if those were at fault, would they have set off the talking lady? Is there some kind of door sensor box somewhere that might be the cause of the false warning light, yet not interact with the talking lady?
I know my light kept coming on when I would take a fast sharp right turn. My bushing on the striker was gone so it would let the door move just enough to come off the light button on the door frame. A little thin piece of cardboard from a shoe box and some electrical tape and it fixed the striker then I put a piece of real dense foam with a sticky backing on the door for the button and it is perfect now, to look at the car it looks stock.
