I put some new BRIGHT Stop/Tail light LEDS in my 82ZX, but still need to over ride the sensor that controls the little display on the dashboard, that says the bulb is burnt out. I see in my manual the RG wire from the rear to the control box but thought I would ask about it before I open it up and figure it out. I hope there is just a read switch inside that needs a magnet attached to it, or maybe just jumper the circuit board to indicate that there is enough current flowing to the LEDS.
Ok under the passenger seat I have the Stop / Tail light sensor. It has a similar configuration to the head light sensor ( see https://www.zdriver.com/forums/280zx...u-280zx-30644/ ) two coils with a reed switch inside of them that close when the lights are working with incandescent bulbs. two coils from stoplight / tail light sensor
So I took a real strong magnet and put it across both coils and checked with a ohm meter that the switches were closed.
And presto! The LEDs are detected as drawing enough current...
Soooo .... I shorted the reed switches out hoping that would fool the circuit into detecting more power is getting drawn by the LEDs.
Reed switch on both coils shorted to coil bracket attached to the other side of reed switch
When I removed the magnet from the coils the warning sensor indicates that the stop and tail lights are not drawing enough current.
HUH???? mechanically closing the reed switch works but shorting it out does not?
Any Ideas ?
