speaker sizes

Hey,
I recently purchased a '79 280ZX 2-seater and would like to update the stereo a little bit. I need to know what size speakers fit in the dash for a '79 model and what size speakers fit nicely (no cutting or anything) in the speaker mounts behind the seats? Thanks in advance for the info.

4" for the dash and the stock rears are 5 1/4" but 6 1/2" will fit without cutting - just need to change the screw holes.

I just looked at my 79 dash. If you are rather dexterous, you might be able to reach the center speaker with a small no. 2 phillips screwdriver if you, pull the glove box, remove the center gauges and the ducting, but it would be quite a stretch. Good luck.

Haha good luck!

Pull the dash and replace all the foam in your ducting and wash it all in the sink while you're in there. Makes a big difference for your air flow from the vents.

You can get some tin snips and make cut outs for 6x9s behind the seats. Trying to figure out where to fit some 6.5" in the front...

get some shallow 4" speakers and make some custom kick panels for the floorboard. Its way easier then removing the dash. Or what you could do is just put some 1" tweeters on the front kick panels and two 6x9 in boxes in the back. Thats what I did with 2 10" subs- Sounds great

Just make sure the tires are straight, take off steering wheel, don't turn tires, put steering wheel back on when finished.

well mine are 4" all around if you want to keep the oem speaker covers for the rear and you could fit 61/2 without cutting behind the seats?
