I'm helping someone that inherited a 1981 ZX and this past weekend the latch on the driver side door refused to engage. As a result, you could just open the door without lifting up on the handle. After removing the door panel, I could see that what ever it is that locks the hook in place after it comes in contact with the post in the door frame was not doing what it's supposed to do. I could take a long screwdriver and spin it so the hook stayed in place but lifting the handle did nothing. I suspect some sort of spring mechanism is broken that disengages that part and allows the hook to rotate when you pull on the door.

I'm guessing the latch in door needs replacing. I can figure out how to remove it using the service manual but I need to find a replacement. Where's the best source for a part like that? Is the same part used in other Datsun/Nissans or is it one of those specifically for the 280ZX?
