Lightbulb Ricer or Tuner?

Driving around today I was yelled at and with a slur, "DAMN RICE BURNER." Are we Zdrivers ricers? I thought we were tuners.... What is a ricer? A small Japan made car with a small engine? Well yes I do think my car fits that catagory. So if you know the differance between a a rice burner and a turner then tell me so I can school this old man if I am to ever see him again...

why care what others think. people yell rice when they see crap that is worthless on a car. huge wing, large pipes, stickers etc etc. its origin came basically from what u said. "tuner" is a import car. its just a word what import people say to be cool. again just laugh in peoples faces. ur driving a z while driving their parents car or some pos. if they knew anything about cars they would understand the z history. why u should no have a closed mind on other automobiles. WHY CANT WE ALL GET ALONG.....thats right the honda kids screwed it up.

Rice burner is the 70's and 80's derogatory slang for a Japanese made car.

Ricer is the 90's/00's derogatory slang for someone that takes a completely stock automatic base model Civic (or equivalent = Corolla, Sentra, MX-3, etc.) and puts a huge wing, 4" tip on the stock exhaust, some crazy body kit and paints it neon colors (or base primer, or mixed and matched primer/painted body parts) and puts a big "APC" sticker on his windows and thinks he can beat anything on the planet to the next stop light.

He was still insulting you, but he's old and doesn't know that it's OK to drive a rice "burner" now.

even after your lesson you don't know what that term means.
Not every car that is modified in any way is considered Rice, except by TransAm driving idiots

an older guy at work put some aftermarket wheels on his red Lexus and paints the calipers red. You'd call it rice even before he got the wheels put on!

I cleaned my calipers with brake cleaner on my completely stock 350Z.

ummmm..... i dont own either, i own a classic sports car. soooo yeah, suck johnson!!!

p.s. i dont know of any one in the history ive met that would call the S30 rice. ive met a bunch of 40 year old dudes since thats the only kind of attention this old of a car grabs, many that have owned shops, built muscle cars, and one guy that made two 9 second 260Z's (V8 swap of coarse) all in my area withing a month, and every single one praised my car.... so i dont know if that guy was shouting rice burner to you unless he was in some asian war (vietnam or korean) and just despise's the country and its products.

I worked with bubba all through high school.
< and i still bought my "Ricer". and It'll out run anything short of Louise's Dragster or Thibidoux's airboat. Even the bubbas in my home town think my car is the ****. So don't let it get to ya. Whats one naysayer in a crowd of cheering voices?

mmmmm sushi

I'll be the first to admit that i used to be the guy calling people effing ricers and what not. I thought my 90 bronco was the shiznit! Now, im on my second Z and planning on a 3rd. Rice??????? its sad but its a derogatory throwback stemming from middle america's distrust for japanese (and asian) things as a whole. To this day my dad wont buy a japanese car because he thinks it takes away from american workers (becasue it did in the early 50s - before he was born) but now, the amount of japanese cars produced in american plants far outnumbers the amount of american cars produced in american plants....wierd huh.

Japanese automotive reliability takes away from America workers.
Buy American, break down more often, buy more parts. Go USA!
Just don't buy the "Made in Taiwan" parts from Autozone.

we are all ricers if you really think about it, some people just have different ideas on what a ricer is if you ask me... so if me wanting my car to look nice (not with all the neon lights and all that) then i guess you can call me a ricer. hahaha
