rear hatch light

I am trying to chase down all the little issues with my 1981 280zx and have come upon the rear hatch light located on the driver's side near that nifty little rear glove compartment.

Anyhow, it dosen't come on or ever get any voltage. I can't seem to find any switch to operate it.

Can anyone tell me what is supposed to cause this light to come on?

Thanks!

Justin

It comes on when you open the hatch. There is a wire that attaches to the locking mechanism for the hatch (between the tail lights) that grounds when the hatch is releases. I believe it's a blue or green wire w/ a rubber covered female end. You should be able to see where it attaches on the latch unit.
