What is the name of the part which is black behind the licence plate?

I just bought a red 280ZX and I hate the design of the rear end, and want to change it a bit.

fwiw, I like the simpler design of the earlier taillights better. Change that over & lose the louvers, and it's a totally different rear end. But it depends on what you're going for, obviously.

 

Actually the above is just a sample photo because the back end seems to have either a black trim or is painted black?

why do people think the school bus taillights look better than stock?

 

There is no trim for the tail... it's just the metal body panel that has been painted...

Why do people think dragging the frame on the ground is better than stock?

I think I'll just wrap the back of the licence plate in matt black or carbon vinyl.

 

I think that people want to make their Z look more like an older Ferrari. Which is what those lights do. I never thought they looked like school bus lights. All aside, you gave me another idea what to do with the middle part in the back of the car. And no, I am not changing my tail lights. lol

 

More like a Skyline.

 

How about both? Even though the Ferrari came out a little sooner than the Skyline.

 

Think I will do this: (see image below)

Black/CArbon Vinyl behind the licence plate, and tint the orange taillight lens to red.
