Thumbs up Rb26dett

Anyone thought about stuffing in an RB26DETT.. Well I just hit 77,000 miles on my 81 280zx na and I just want more power much, much more.. Would this task be worth doing or should I just drop in a small block..

And I'm torn between RB25/26, SBC, or a build up of the L28ET

you also may want to visit hybridz. they have whole sections devoted to this, just read the stickies first, and there are lots of those. skyline motors are nice and all, but hope you got 10,000 minimum. the sbc is a cheap power alternative. but keep in mind going turbo on the stock l6. there are some ppl with 610 hp to the rear wheels, on the stock block, well some mods to it.

I've come to the conclusion that the Z (pre-Z32) just isn't built for high hp. Of course w/ a lot of $$$ and mods you can make it handle huge power, but if I ever decide to have a high hp car, I'll just buy a high hp racecar.

Im starting to get fed up with my damn car and am about ready to sell it.. Low miles 77,000 new paint, new tires.. But now my head lights only work on high beam, what gives the low beam just shuts off the head lights.. Not sure if its the switching module, a fuse, head light sensor, or something else. Anyone ever had the same issue? If so whats the remedy?

Check this thread: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-280zxt-s30-s130-tech-tips-275/dim-headlights-not-noh-moh-22117/

You more than likely have a prob w/ the switch.

Hmm so this is a common problem. Well I checked with Nissan and well there is no replacement for this switch.. Im often pissing ppl off with my high beams but what can I do. I just keep driving. Guess I will have to ****** one off of another car.. Does the switch have to match with my VIN? Will any switches w/cruise control work?

So does anyone have a combo switch or know where to get one? Im going to try and use some advise from other posts that had similar issues to get mine working. But why do my HIGH beams work but not my LOW?

If one set of contacts in the switch (the hi beams) are making contact when switched to on then they will work. But if another set of contacts (the low beams) are not making contact then that circuit will not work. Not entirely sure, as its been a while, but the low beams may use a seperate relay than the high beams, and quite possibly even a seperate power source from the fuse box (so check for blown fuses). Again, its been a while since I've been around a 280zx so those are just things to check, and not to get your hopes up. But the switch having internal contact problems is a common problem and usually quite simple to fix.

the switches are different between the years. they went 79-80.5 and then to 83. the signals are the same, its actually the wiper part that is diff. i have a 82 year w/cruise for sale, or you can check ebay. private message me if you are interested.
