Possible new owner

I have the opportunity to trade some wheels I have for a 1982 280zx L28 5 spd with 160k miles. I haven't seen the car in person yet, but the seller is telling me the only mechanical problem with the car is the flywheel is missing teeth on it so it needs a new one so it has to be push started. He's changed the starter on it twice and the second time he was under it he saw the flywheel missing some teeth.

How expensive and how hard is it to change a flywheel on one of these?

He also said when you accelerate faster than normal driving speed, it hesitates getting into 2nd gear. Should I be worried about this or not?

Otherwise it's in pretty good condition.

hesitations are very comon and very easy to fix. changing flywheels is easy. very easy to get to anyways. getting the flywheel bolts off however is a BITCH! but very doable with an impact gun. also, all those problems can be fixed for an accumulative price of under 100 dollars im sure.

have you ever pulled a trany before they are not hard to do you will how ever need to remove the shifter so you can clear the floor pan
after that the fly wheel is pretty easy
tools needed 1/2 in drive metric soket set impact gun or 1/2 in drive ratchet
a universal adapter and some extentions as well as a clutch alignment tool
should take a full day i work in a junk yard so tranies are pretty eay for me to do
shouldnt be to hard for you to do
hope i helped a lil bit oh and a fly wheel shouldnt be more than 100$

Same difference

I'll probably have a shop install the flywheel. I don't have an impact wrench or any experience with removing a tranny. I'll let the shop mess with it.

This is assuming my wheels fit the sellers BMW...THEN I will have the 280.

What year BMW? Make sure the rims are hubcentric & have a 5x120 lug pattern.

I don't know the year, but it's a 325i. He said he needed 4x100 and that's what these wheels are. They're 18 inch Axis Mod wheels.

changing the flywheel really isnt that difficult and you can do it without an impact wrench, it is a bitch but possible the only good thing to have is an extra set of hand when removing and reinstalling the tranny. but good luck

Would the flywheel be the only reason it needs to be push started?

It's not an S30... the nose is too short to be a Z31, it's not a Z32 or Z33... so I'm gunna say no.

I would say a first gen RX7 mebbe?

EDIT... I don't think it's an RX7 either.

Well he said the flywheel is missing teeth and he's changed the starter twice. So maybe it's both?

i drive a car missing teeth on the fly wheel, the starter wouldnt grab so i stuck it in gear, rolled it foreward a little bit and tried again, started right up. then i drove it into another car because it was a trade in at a car lot. it was fun.

i dont understand the so called "hesitation going into 2nd" when its a manual.
does it not go into 2nd very well or does the engine bog down when you go into seccond

you probally havent even driven the car yet have you. thats something i might want to do even if you are trading wheels for it
