OK here's a head scratcher for ya...

So I'm driving the test mule as my DD. I haven't had her on the road most of the summer and lent my winter beater to a friend. I was having a problem where I wasn't getting any heat although everything seemed to be working fine. I had rebuilt the entire climate control including redoing the vacuum line connections, etc. I was about to pull the dash and order in a water **** to repair since the only thing left was either a blockage or the water **** had failed and was just bypassing the heated water. Before I did that I took a look at the vacuum pump in the engine bay. Turns out the line going into the tank and one going to the climate control were both split going into the tank. Snip snip and the heat's back!

So here's the head scratcher. Fixed it last night and drove to work this morning which is when I figured out I fixed the heat - yay! Now the car is running LEAN - like 15-16 on the AFR gauge. I'm running MS3 so on the way home I start messing around with the AFR map and it's still running like a dog. As I pull up to my house I'm trying to rack my brain - is there an injector not firing, etc? I'm thinking it's coincidence that when I worked on it last night and fixed the vacuum leak the problems started. But.... never leave a stone unturned and although it seems unlikely it's the only thing that I know changed since it was running fine the night before. Park the car an pull one of the lines off the vacuum pump (resevoir side) and yea the AFR's go right back to where they should be! Someone please explain this to me! The FPR has it's own heavy vacuum line - not tapped off of anything. That's the only thing I can think of related to fuel and vacuum.

Anyone - Bueler?

Was your vacuum pump running when you pulled the hose and it went back to normal?

Do you have manual or auto climate control?

does one of the lines have a leak? does the pump/canister leak. i had one of the diaphrams under the dash leak cause a vacuum leak that was noticable until one day it split all the way. then the car ran way better after i changed it.
