Hey I have the best of both 280ZX worlds. I own a slicktop, and t-tops. But yeah don't diss the American cars either. I own a Firebird, and she is a slicktop. And she is not wimpy, 385 hp. But it would be sweet if she was a t-top. They are actually harder to find in a t-top for some reason.

i love both my Slick top's. 81 and 83. In a way, T-Tops are nice in the summer. But SlickTop's provide a sleeker look, and more statability. But hell. Big Blue won't be a SlickTop much longer. And that's the ONLY hint ya'll are geting on what's goin on with my 2+2. She's a Suprise for ya'll. Oh, and there's a rummor that they made a 4:11 rear end. hunt one down, and she'd be a monster in the drift comp's

They didn't make convertible 280's, so I went with a t-top. I owned a 75 slicktop and it was fine. The t-tops do take away from the looks when they are in, but they add to the looks when they are out. It took me over a year to find a good body for my rebuilt motor when my Z was totalled.
My requirements were:
1. non-turbo
2. basically rust-free or minor rust
3. t-tops - it had to have t-tops, I love them when they are out.

I want to eventually get a 240 & 260 one day (i made that statement to my wife to see what kind of look i would get and she said "that sounds like a doable project to me", I about passed out) and slick top is fine with me, but I will keep my 280 t-top.

Everyone has an opinion:
But opinions are just like buttholes, everybody has one and they all stink!!!

So if you like slick, that's fine with me, i like them too, but I LOVE T-TOPS !

I don't plan to use the factory engine. In fact, the only thing that's going to be stock on the car is well, the car. (the body)

everthing.

else will be replaced with performance parts.

Once I figure out what's what, what's good, what'll work, and what IT does.

:s-redeemer:

um... how do I make sure the car is a 280ZX and now a 280Z??
Crapper jacks.

The 280z & 280zx look very different:

280Z (75-78):

280ZX (79-83):

She said it was a '79, so I take it it's a 280ZX from the information you just stated.

I don't know crap about motors, that's why I'm here.

I want to get about 600hp out of the car. I'm going to put as much as $100k into. So I need to learn some stuff. It's gotta be big enough to put a big turbo kit in there and withstand at least 15+/lbs of boost every day

If you don't know anything about motors, why do you think $10k will only get you "half an engine" ???
