ATTN: All Z car types, Need your thoughts please

OK Guys, here's the deal.

Yours truly has been asked to write an article to appear in an upcoming issue of Sport Z Magazine!

I need to hear from Z car owners about the things that attracted them to owning one in the first place as well as how they enjoy ownership. Examples: Do you autocross? Is it a show car? Restore project? Etc...

What kinds of things do you love about your Z?

Aside from ZDriver, do you belong to any Z related groups or clubs? What part of the country are you in? What kind of random conversations has your Z car sparked between yourself and a complete stranger?

If I use anything gathered here on this forum, I'll let you know as I will also need a few hi-res pics of your car along with full names for the article.

Thanks in advance,

Rod.

P.S.

You can PM or email also...

I got it because I wanted something "classic". And I'm always having strangers come up to me and tell me how they used to have a first or second gen (S130) Z.

Obviously The Z style is sick .. I got a ZX because I was researching Z's and everyone was shunning the ZX because of the "overwight" factor, then I realized NO ONE had an S/C'd Z, and I always liked underdog cars, so I bought one for the looks and challenge.. I will still get an S/C going for this car though now that I got a spare motor to mess with..

Cool First z

I got my z because it was cheap and not many people have them. Even though I prefered the s30 i ended up with a 79zx. A few months after owning it i was fortunate enough to get a hold of a 72 240z for $150 running and in good condition. Being from Las Vegas and all not that much of a rust factor which also swayed me towards a z. Plus the fact that the old muscle cars are getting way out of hand in prices to buy. The only regret so far is that I have not been able to even touch the 240 scence I am deployed. I can't wait to get back to start working on the new love of my car loving life.

I got my Z because it was sitting behind a garage and I could not stand to let that car sit there abused and forgotten about. I did not at first like the way it looked, But now the body style has grown on me. And the fact that I have seen some pretty sick ones, I know the car has alot of potentail. Now I am a true devotee of the Z.

I Live In Canada (obviously) I Belong To My Own Z Car Club And The Van Isle/vancouver Club. I Had Wanted One Since I Was 7 Years Old, I Saw A Picture Of One And Said "thats My Car" My Parents Thought I Was Never Going To Find One Because There Kind Of Rare Here, But Now I Have 4 Cars!! Everybody Always Stops Me To Tell Me About How There Mom Or Friend Had A Z At Some Point, Now I Almost Know There Story Before They Say It. And It Gives Me Wood To Drive Or Look At It. Its A Real Show Stopper At The Local Shows And Is Easy To Work On.

Hope That Helps You Rod!!!

I found her sitting in a garage at tow yard. Needed a transmission but I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her. The sexy lines. The whole 2 seater sports car appeal of it all. Those all played major roles in my purchasing her. I was actually out car shopping with my wife to get her a car when I stumbled upon my 280zx. I couldn't be talked out of it. Once I had it I loved the fact that hardly anybody had one. It was great. Right now she's just a project car/occasional driver. I plan to keep her a street car, all be it a high performance street car. Right now I'm swapping in a L28ET into my 81 NA. Swap is nearly complete. I belong to the IZCC, zcar.com, hybridz.org, automotiveforums.com, and atlanticz.ca. I'm sure there's probably a couple more I cant think of right off the top of my head. Oh, and cardomain.com Thats a big one. I move around too often to get involved with a local club. Eventually though. Right now I'm back in CA, which I'm originally from. But my home is currently in VA. People always come up to talk about the car. Usually it's just curiosity about what kind of car it is. Some take a stab at it. Most are wrong; confusing it with a different Z or a RX7 or some other sports car. I just love it's classic lines. I love my Z and I love my ZDriver

i got my zx from the original owner who simply wanted to get a new one, i mainly got it because my uncle has ownes about 6-7 fairlylady z's and zx's and i just got hooked on the way they looked, like a bullet that was chopped down the center, now i own about 5 zx's 2 of wich are daily drivers, the other three are cars awaiting motors, btu i have one that stripped bare sitting in the corner. i autocross them both and an all around racing/street machine. i also started up the first and only datsun/nissan club at my school.

Well if you remember we had a thread, that said how we got started. Which a lot of information is in there.

Anyway I will talk about the '82 I currently got running. Basically somebody saw me driving my '81 one night. And asked me if I wanted a parts car. And I went to to look at it. And I instantly fell in love with him. And felt bad for him sitting and rotting away in somebody's backyard. And of course my '81 is a slicktop, and I always wanted a t-top.(which the '82 is) But now that I know the slicktops are harder to find. I will restore my '81 later. Anyway at first, back in '03 when I got the '82 for $200. I messed with him a little. And then I really didn't get motivated until I joined zdriver a year ago. And then I had all kinds of ideas pouring out of my head. Then it ends up where I am currently at right now.

Now the other thing I love about Z cars. Is the strangers that ask about them. Or tell me I had one of those before. And man do I miss mine. Also wow that car is a classic. I mean the first weekend, which was the last one. That I drove my Z for pizza deliverys. I had 2 or 3 people each day, that either commented on him. Or sayed they had one before. But most of all, I just love the way the 280zx looks. I just can't use the right words to describe it. So basically it is awesome, and it is driven.

Also the other reason I fell in love with 280zx's. Was the fact a friend of mine had an '81 slicktop. Which I loved to ride in, and I wanted one so bad. Anyway that should sum it up pretty much.

My dad actually had a z32, which is what got me into Z's. I saw my current Z on ebay and fell in love with it. I like the power, RWD, and old-style of it. I dont like the new cars that feel like your stepping on a wet noodle when you accelerate. I need some resistance in the pedals. I have the only z31 in my area, and I love the stares I get wherever I go .

A classic, Balanced motor. Slick Styleing, Rare(compared to other's) In a way, kind of Forgotin(compared to other's) Room for upgrades, Plenty of room to work on(not crowded(motor bay wise). And the looks you get when in one.

Man, just reading this gets me motivated, Mine looks better than when I got her but it will literally take years to get her to look anywhere near Wildman's, and Rod's and Icie's. I feel like the ugly duck, everyone on here, that has pictures up, there car's look so damn good and mine looks like ****. I want to drive mine, just so I can get the stares and looks and people asking me questions. And everyone talking about how it feels to drive it. And at first since I never see Z's around here and it took some searching to find this site, I thought I was alone, but now I know that there are alot of us. I will one day actually get to drive a ZX

Don't forget that even though the S30 is the more valuable "classic", the S130 stil had way more toys made of it. ie, three 1st gen Transformers, a Super Gobot, and a bunch of different Matchbox variants, some of which had guns and armor!

Hey don't be so hard on yourself brother. You think my Z looked nice and pretty when I got him? No way, he was an absolute wreck. And really beat up, talk about a junkyard escapee. But seriously man, it is all about time and hard work, and dedication. And your Z will look how you want it before you know it. I really wish I could go and help you out. I would love to help you with your interior especially. But unfortunately I can't, and it isn't possible. Besides I still need to do a lot more to my Z yet. More than you know, and believe me he isn't perfect.

So don't give us too much credit. Us three that you mentioned. We pretty much started out with rough cars. TLC, a willing to learn, and use your creativity. And you will have a kick *** 280ZX before you know it bro' Keep your head up, you will get there. I know my journey has never been close to an easy path. But guranteed man, the reward will be well friggin' worth it.

It's going to either be in the Fall or Winter issue. I finished it though... You'll all just have to wait until it comes out to read it.
