Need a Trustworthly mechanic

Hey, I am in Arizona and need someone to get my car running! Someone I can trust and will be fair in pricing. Difficult to find a mechanic who even knows what a Datsun 280zx 2+2 non-turbo is?

Our member WildmaN lives pretty close to you I believe... and a few other members. He might chime in soon, or you could PM him.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you. I was at work. I was planning on calling you tomorrow. Because I didn't want to call you late at night. But maybe Jamal can help you more, because he is closer. Keep us posted what happens. Good luck.

Hi, I truly thought there would be a ton of people on here who know people in Phoenix, Az. that know how to work on these cars! I appreciate all the comments and the "Welcomes" and someplace to go where people understand how passionate about my car I am! Right now, I must have this car running! My friend put on a new fuel pump but couldn't get the damper off to replace it with the new one. That is one of the minor problems that is keeping her from running! My friend has done all he is able having never worked on an import car! I am doing my best to be patient however, this is the only car I have at the moment! I have spoken to quite a few shops and here are just two examples of shops who state they know all about these cars! One said to me, "Oh, that's the one with dual carburetors". LOL Then he didn't know what a "damper" is. lol Another guy said there was, "no such thing as an Air Flow Meter on my car".! LOL I know more about this car than they do! I came here for some real help as you guys know these cars! Someone please help!! Thank you.

If you are looking for "tons" of local Z people, try your local Z car forum. This is a worldwide forum.

Pretty hard to help you when you haven't told us the problem...

An engine needs 3 things to start (if mechanically sound):
-Proper air
-Proper fuel
-Proper spark

So... is it getting fuel and spark at all 6 cylinders? Is the fuel pump running? Checked the fusible links? Timing?

Yes, I suppose you are correct in pointing out how naive I am. There is a problem with the fuel/air mixture. The car is running too rich. The car floods the brand new spark plugs every time it has gotten started. My friend changed the fuel pump but did not change the damper which I have and would like changed out. He just doesn't have the tools or the knowledge to go any further.I don't know why it floods the plugs. It has all new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel regulator, fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors are fine, and other things. The car tries to start and has started 3 times. The first time I took it someplace and let it run for about 1/2 hour when I got back I turned it off and started it again just to double check. it started just fine. Then later that night I went to start it and it wouldn't start. Yes, it has spark, it has gas. However, I think the tank needs to be filled up. All of this has taken alot of fuel and it is getting too low. The only problem with the AFM that I am able to see is maybe the wires were pulled out and not in the correct position. Timing was dead on when I drove it the one time. My friend doesn't have the right tools to be certain. He won't touch the car anymore and that is probably a good thing. He has gone as far as he can and is dealing with health issues. I am not a mechanic that is why I asked the original question. I don't even know if there is a "local Z forum" but I will certainly check that out.

Sounds like the CHTS isn't working or is unplugged. Check it.

And for Pete's sake download the FSM: www.xenons130.com/reference

I did download it before I even registered on this site.
There isn't anyone but me to look at it.
I checked there aren't any "local Z Clubs".
Thank you for the possible thought I will check it.

Hey Goldie..... Did you locate a reputable mechanic for your Z? I too have 1982 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 non-turbo NOT RUNNING!!! I also live in the Arcadia district I've had the car for 8-9 months where it sits as I have not been able to locate anyone with enough knowledge of the car and how it operates. Any help is greatly appreciated. LL
