My Red '79

This is my car. Just got it last weekend. However wasn't able to drive it yet, because its at the back of the garage, since I got it off my brother. I'm curious if it is a nice drive ... it will take a lot since my daily driver is 1997 Impreza WRX.

The interior and exterior of the car is mint except for an oil leak and a swiss cheese exhaust box. Wheels are from Compromotive, but looking for some Watanbes or BBS RS wheels.

Does anyone know where I can get a simple front lip for a 280ZX? Plastic not fiberglass.

YOu're right!
I really don't know what Datsun was thinking when they designed the bumpers for the American market. Do you constantly bump into each other on purpose? lol

I don't try to. lol So what country do you reside in? Also what size are your wheels? Are they at least 15's. I would be interested in them, in the near future. If shipping wasn't too high.

@WildmaN - I live in Malta, and shipping will be too expensive, which is the reason I won't get any new wheels anytime soon.

@mrprofile - similar but yours is red metalic with some differences here and there. Was our split sunroof a factor option, or an aftermarket modification?

I think it's a semi after market thing meaning it could be a dealer add on, I ran into a guy who used to sell them back in the 80's and he was telling me that my rocker panels were a dealership thing, I think he said the sunroof was a dealership add on as well but, everybody was adding sunroofs to there cars back then so its 50/50 chance yours were aftermarket or dealership. but I tend to go by, if it looks like a joe shmo job, then its probably aftermarket

well there isn't an online brochure that I could find but I did buy one off ebay and read it, I also made a post identifying wether you have a GL (Grand Luxory) or not because 79' vin numbers don't tell you anything about the cars heres the post I made:

  • Cruise control - n/a
  • Power steering (in 2 seater, 2+2 was standard) - ok
  • Power windows for both windows, and the auto up and down on driver side - ok
  • 4 speakers, instead of 3 - ok
  • Aluminum alloy wheels - ok
  • Rear window wiper and washer - ok
  • electronically adjustable passenger side mirror - n/a
  • and that cool computer checking system on the dash - ok

Don't have all the options but I still guess my is a GL.

yea, I'm starting to think they just did whatever in 79 because it was the first year, because I don't have the headlight washers and GL is supposed to

And from what I know. Headlight washers didn't come out until the '81 turbo, if I am not mistaken. The main thing with the GL models. Was a rear wiper, power windows, cruise control, power antennae, and power steering. There might have been other options. But I can't remember right now. lol

yea, your right, there were no headlight washers in the 79, but I did learn a little tid bit, the gas tanks for the 79 2+2 and 2 seat are the same (21.1) gallons, I say this because i've seen a couple people say they had to shorten the gas tank because the back seat's got in the way, I was always suspicious, and I guess my suspicions are true.
and apparently you could have gotten the tenth anniversary colors in the 79 lol i'll see if I can find a scanner so you can all look
and technically you do have alloy wheels, but there not factory (im sure you know)

Easy way to tell if its the GL is the back window wiper. If it has that then its the GL, no wiper then its the base.

yea, I mean there is the off chance, someone went out of there way to install one, but that's a lot of work for a not much result lol, oh and just FYI if you plan on installing louvers, make sure they have clearance for the sprayer bump, with mine there wasn't enough so the guys who first put them on 3 decades ago had to flip the brackets holding the louvers over so they would clear the bump, yea... its kinda hard to explain but easy to understand lol
