My first post/question, Thanks

Hi there, just got a very good running 83 turbo 113.000, my problem is that I have to wait 3-5 seconds after depresing clucht to go into first gear, if I try clucht then gear in wont go, no grinding just a low clunk, only after depresing and pause will go ease, also reverse is worst, just grind, the rest of shifting, up or down, is perfect; Should I be lokking to a new clucht? or syncros? or both? or else Thanks

service the tranny my self with mobil 75-90 sint. didn't change a bit

The first thing you should check is your tranny fluid. When your car ain't moving and the fluids low, it'll make for some hard shifting. Also check that your shifter is mounted correctly to the tranny and the bushing are good. I grinded a lot going into reverse when my bushing was shattered.

I'm pretty sure first and reverse don't have synchros. So synchro's wouldn't be your problem.

Not likely but...
You've might have a bad clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. Did you make sure you're not low on clutch fluid? Other reasons could be a misaligned clutch plate, a loose clutch cover, tranny ain't bolted tight to the engine, bad release bearing.

I'm pretty sure first and reverse don't have synchros. So synchro's wouldn't be your problem.

Sorry I didn't see that last part about the tranny fluid. So scratch that one. I doubt it's your clutch too, but I'm not positive. I would put my money on the shifter or the linkage in the tranny for the shifter.
Those bushings are real cheap and you can get them from nissan.

If it ain't that, second on my list would be the release bearing.

Hope these help. Good luck.

I did a clutch system purge but I took it lightly thinking I was OK so overlooked the rest, may be good news if first and reverse don't have sincro, this is a t5

Yeah most manuals don't have synchros on these gears because you don't need to match revs when shifting into reverse, and usually first (unless you're down shifting into a really slow turn), so the synchros aren't needed. Just a 2-3 and a 3-4, and then 5th gear syncro.

Is it hard to shift into those two gears when the engine is off?
If you don't have any problems when the engine is off, then it's probably your release bearing. If you have trouble shifting even with the engine off, then its probably the shifter or linkage. With the car off, push the clutch in and shift through all the gears from 1st to R and then back. If this all goes smooth, then it's probably not related to your clutch system.

Your clutch is not disengaging completely. Your synchros are trying to stop the imput shaft. The thunk is from the slak being taken out of your drive line when you force it into gear. The reverse gear grinds because it has no synchro so it can't stop the trans from turning. Some possibile causes are bad clutch fork, throw out bearing or just the push rod adjustment from the slave cyclinder to the fork.
