Motor swap/California Emissions Question

[IMG][/IMG]

First off,
Hi to everyone....this is a great site with lots of great info.

Second, I have a question regarding the california emissions on a S130. According to the 1980 FSM, California 280zx's did not come with an EGR circuit. If this is correct, what is the casting number for that particular manifold? The reason I am asking is because the 1980 280zx i am currently working on, is originally a California model. Meaning it came with a O2 sensor and a 3way cat. The new motor i just installed (1981 F54 block with N47 head), is not a California model, so a few changes have to be made. As far as i can tell, all i will need is a new 2 port Thermal vacuum valve type D3 and some replumbing of the vacuum lines. Does anyone know if I can just plug one port on the type d2 T.V.V and have it still work like the D3?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. I have worked many hours to bring this Z back and i am getting so close. This car was one of those $300 dollar craigslist specials, so if I can get it running correctly it would be a major feat!

Thanks

Motor swap/California Emissions Question

Quick question,

Does anyone know if you can use a 3 port thermal vacuum valve type D2 and plug one of the ports and then use it like a 2 port type D3? I have recently installed a federal motor (1981 F54 block w/ N47 head) into my california emissions equipped 1980 280zx. I have added the O2 bung and sensor and now all I have to do is replumb the vacuum hoses to the California specs. Also, according to the FSM. California emission vehicles did not come with an EGR circuit. Does anyone know if the casting numbers are the same for both california and federal intake manifolds or do they have seperate part #'s

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

dude, they arent going to notice crap like that, most dont even check timing, as long as it looks complete and the car looks decent, they arent going to question it.

Fisrt off thanks for the reply Hoov....

Second, the reason i am asking is the motor currently backfires and acts like it has a vacuum leak. Starts and idles fine, but if you give it any gas it bogs down and dies. I wanted to try and set the car up according to the MFG specs so i can start troubleshooting. As it stands, i cant locate a 2 port thermal vacuum valve anywhere. There are plenty of 3 port type D3's around but no one is selling the 2 port for nissan's.

Does anyone know if there are any other differences between the california emissions and the federal? Like maybe different programming on the EFI controller or something?

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
