Injector cleaning

Injector cleaning
Well I had a problem with my car running not too great when it was given gas. It was idling fine though. I verified that all the injectors were firing and that all plugs were sparking. But for some reason #'a 1 and 2 just weren't contrbuting to the forumla. I could hear the engine missing and when revved it was slow to respond and revved slowly. So I knew something was off. I narrowed it to both #1 and #2. #1 was really weak and #2 just wasn't contributing at all. Compression read good to both cylinders so I figured it had to be that the injectors were plugged up. So I pulled the rail today and set up a bench for cleaning the injectors. I poured to bottles of injector cleaner into a tub and added a little gas for volume (this stuff evaparoates quickly and I didn't have a lid). I plugged the return line on the rail and hooked up a spare pump I had. I pumped cleaner through each injector until the spray pattern normalized. Just as I thought #1 and #2 were baredly spraying at first. And #3 was basically just a straight stream. When I was done each injector had a good strong spray pattern. I didn't get a chance to reinstall the rail yet though so that'll have to wait til tomorrow. So if anyone else is having problems then this might be your solution. It was so easy to do and didn't cost me a damn thing to build it cause I had everything laying around that I needed to put it together.
Oh and I had already tried running injector cleaner through the fuel system but it didn't make a difference. But by forcing it through each injector individually it had no choice but to clear a path.

Here's the diagram. The only difference between this and what I ended up building is that I only ended up hooking up one injector at a time (to an electrical source).

Since the whole Injector thing is open. I am puting new hoses and seals. Riught now i am trying to get the damn hose off them, Know a way? And are your first three injector's have diff ends? here's mine. First injector is one of the first three. Secound injector is one of the last three.

If you're going to replace the rubber fuel line, just cut them off. I use an exacto / box knife to cut the hose on the barbed fitting of the injector. All 6 injector tips should be the same... Looks like that skinnier tip has the pintle cap broken off. Nismo619 knows where to buy them...

I have been cutin, and yankin, and cutin. it's shredded. but still on the damn injector. I have been pumpin injector cleaner thought the system, but my #5 injector was leaking though a crack in hose, system could not build up a good pressure. I am replacing all the 6 hoses, and seals. and i am gona soak the injector tips in paint thiner overnight. then hooke em up, see if they spray. Only if i can find a way for these damn hoses to come off

those can be a bitch to get off. I use nismo's approach and just use an exacto knife to cut a slit in the hose. If that doesn't do it then I proceed to cut off as much of the rubber as possible. If it's the metal end piece you're having trouble with then you can cut those off CAREFULLY with a dremel or a pair of wire cutters. I just use regular hose clamps afterwards. I've had no leakage doing it that way on a couple Z's. Just dont damage the injector.

Not bad. Get a mini flathead screwdriver & slide it under the hose & pry up. Also, you could just put the tip of the screwdriver on the top of the hose & push down, cutting through the hose side. Maybe get the vice grips & lightly pull on that metal cup at the bottom. Like J said, you really won't need that if you use clamps.

gap is 1.0-1.1mm. Or 0.039"-0.043" for the metric illiterate
I got everything put back together on my engine today and fired her up. Good God she start fast now. Not even a full engive revolution before she fires up. Runs like a champ. Revs really nice and smooth the way she should. Cleaning the injectors worked like a charm.

Even though I put all new injectors in my car I wonder if that has anything to do with why my car doesn't seem to fire up as fast as it used to? It seems like it'll generally take a few revolutions before the thing turns over. It runs fine and revs smoothly, just it takes longer to crank over. I'm also thinking it could be either the battery is starting to go, or the injectors are just a little different because they're brand new. Maybe like they need to be broken in?

What about the cold start injector or air regulator? You checked those?

Well. I just got done installing injector's. New hoses, seals. And they soaked well. and got clean. #5 is still leaking, car clicks when trying to start. And yes batt is fully charged. Blaaa, why do I even try

I'd say go for new injectors. That's what I did after I got fed up trying to use old injectors. All of them worked except one. After my first attempt two of the injectors were leaking, one was leaking just at the hose. That was fixed the second time I pulled the rail, but one of the injectors was actually just leaking cus when I pulled the upper O-ring it was all wet from gasoline. So I replaced all the injectors and now have no problems. I'm using the $35.94 GP Sorensen Injectors from AdvanceAutoParts.com
As for my problem I think I may have already solved it. I started it and while revving it there seemed to be a pop or a different noise sorta like a miss around 3k rpms. I started pulling the plug wires from the distibutor, it seemed like the connector for the #2 plug wasn't connected all the way, or like it was being held by the plug wire's boot. So I made sure to complete the connection and checked all the other wires to the distirbutor, made sure the coil was all connected up and tried again. The car started quicker and the miss was gone. It didn't start as quick, but I'm gonna attribute that to the repeated use of electricals with the car off and the bunch of times trying to start the car without letting the battery recharge. So I'll have to fire her up and take her for a run later to let the battery get a good charge on it. I also think this is why I was smelling fuel, it was just dumping fuel into the cylinder and it wasn't getting burned so the car was running rich.

oh. Try running a wire straight from your battery to the spade connector on the starter solenoid with the key on and coil wire unplugged from the distributor. that should crank the engine over. If it doesn't then the starter is bad. If it does then the starter is just not getting a signal.
Unless of course you have a meter. Then you can just test for voltage at the solenoid.
