Are you going to look for each part individually? It will be much easier & cheaper to find an L28ET engine... all your parts are right there.

It's really hard to find a decent L28et in a whole. And i dont know for sure what i want to do either. Plus i dont want to do a full engine swap but i want to just boost my NA so off the top of my head im thinking i need:

exhaust manifold, high flow oil pump, tapped oil pan, oil cooler, turbo afm, turbo ecu (megasquirt still in mind.. then wont need afm), boost piping (no worries). Im planning on keeping it the stock CR... i have a n42 head w/ dish pistons so i should be right about 8.3:1

anything im missing? i have boosted my old VW before and it wasn't to much of a pain.. mainly converting it from Cis to Efi was the pain... gotta love VW cis fuel pumps... 90 psi sucka

I suggest reading these previous threads about building a turbo from an na setup:

https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ht=turbo+L28ET

https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ht=turbo+L28ET

https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ht=turbo+L28ET

eh... there are others, but that will do. All I ask, is that you do it right.

It's going to be done right just not stock. I am still planning on running the n42 head for the higher compression. I guess it'll be an experience for us all when i start boosting... now time to find a daily while i tear her down. time for another VW rabbit diesel

What compression ratio are you going to run? How much boost? Remember that the CR increases as boost increases. These engines aren't built for wild high CRs.

w/ the n42 head and a oem hg the stock compression is 8.3:1
Stacking the head gaskets should bring me down to about 7.8:1

Even the stock 8.3:1 should be boost worthy esp if im not planning on going over 10 psi. Yes the n42 head is not a high flowing head. Im still planning on doing some port work w/ it and a 5 angle. Also planning on going w/ the LD-28 intake manifold because the ports on those are quite a bit larger actually matching the head. I think the ports on the head are like a 30mm port and the intake manifolds are 24mm .. as comparded to the 29.5 mm ld-28 intake

Stock turbo Z compression is 7.4:1 so why go through all that trouble just to have 7.8 and then you're running an open chamber head. Whatever you do, run a P90 head or at least a P79 so you have closed chamber. Run flat tops and a 8.8:1 compression with a P90 head and low boost. You'll have good torque then.

If you turbo an NA motor, do get the turbo ECU and Fuel injection wiring, turbo injectors, turbo fuel pump ect. Only keep the block as a NA engine.
