Hope this doesn't make me a traitor??
I really do love my turbo82 zx. But I can't take the fumes anymore. I've done everything I can to get rid of them but once you open the window. BAM/ you're nostrils are on fire and you get a headache in no time. This sucks when you're in FL because its either sweat your *** off and be able to breathe, or brave the fumes.
Anywho. Please don't forsake me if I go to "the dark side."
Anyways. My car in my sig IS FOR SALE. Make me an uninsulting offer and its yours. I payed 4000 for it and have fixed it up very well. It just needs some paint! Make an offer!
BTW
Anything to look out for with the z31?
Oh and here's the z31:

Its an 86 nonturbo 5 speed. What do you guys think?

well atleast you're still thinking about a Z
I'm dont know the history of your problem but it sounds like you've just got an exhaust leak. Did you check all mating flange bolts for tightness and that all the gaskets were good. A loose mating surface will destroy a gasket so even if you do tighten the bolts it will still leak. Also, you could have a crack or rust through in your exhaust system allowing the fumes out. I went through a whole ordeal with fumes and I had to do several things to get it all taken care of.

Good lookin Z31. Make sure the fuel injector recall was done on it: ( http://www.az-zbum.com/information.i...r.recall.shtml ).
How do you like that Aeromotive adjustable fpr?

The aeromotive FPR is great! I highly recommend it. It took me longer to locate the fittings than it did to install it lol. And its very easy to adjust.
Now please... Buy my car someone!

ya 1986+ are better. They've got the wide fender flares that I like. I'd go for a 1987-89 personally or do the 87-89 front end conversion on that car and paint it all black. But that's just what I like.

I think you'll like the Z31. Advice for checking it out. See if you can get a peak at the under side, spare tire well, body surfaces, etc. I recently looked at a Z31 that ran well and had a really good tranny, but the spare tirew well was flooded, cracked windshield, interior was slightly worn, a little bit of rust, etc.
The Z31 is a much bigger pain in the *** to work on compared to the S130, but it's definitely not impossible. Once you've got the bumper off things are way easier. Too bad you're selling the 280ZX though. I would personally say work with it and try and get the exhaust taken care of. Once you get into a non-turbo Z when you've been driving a Turbo Z, you may not be as pleased. As for me, I might get another Z31 one day, but I'd much rather hunt down a good Turbo S130 before even a Z31 Turbo. Good luck with it.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. I test drove it today. There's very very little rust. About a square 1.5 inches in the drivers side sideskirt. Easily replaceable. There's a hole in the firewall on the passenger side behind the batery/computer. Which sucks. But its in a lot better shape than my s130. The interior doesn't leak, is brand new, has a very decent audio set up.
The clutch feels great and I can't wait to get an exhaust for it. I'll probably pick it up sunday.
Btw all the gauges work, its gotta brand new cd player and pioneer speakers. I only need to fix the ac and exhaust and the small hole in the firewall.
I'm into performance of course but I really want a car that doesn't embarras my girlfriend or make her uncomfortable. I want all the bells and whistles you know?

I need to know, where are the links about the cracked manifold? I do hear a pinging sound under acceleration and the guy I bought the car off of said that it was a air tube off the catalytic convertor that wasnt supposed to be there that he plugged up with a screw.
I am interested in more info on this,
Rick

I couldn't tell ya where those links are, we didn't go into great discussion about them, but I remember it was discussed. The driver's side exhaust manifold generally right around where it comes off the head is where they usually seem to crack. I can't tell you why, but it seems to be the common thing. For the price and the condition it still sounds worth it. I don't believe it should be too hard to get a new driver's side exhaust manifold.
Why waste time replacing it with an oem manifold? You might as well buy a header set!
Speaking of which, I can only seem to find a couple headers. Anyone know what header would be best for a daily driven/non high speed 300zx?

well go turbo if you do it all as the NA is to frigging slow for its weight!
the turbo ... well i parted a 86'5 ( wider flares but sqaurish lights IMHO the best combi there is) That car was ... well TOP GUN 80's pimpin!
However the fumes ... might be due to the hatch as it creates drag... you culd also try making the exhaust tip longer or angeling it out ( that is why most diesel have the tip bent down!)
