So while fiddling around in my engine bay ('82 Turbo), I noticed something that I've looked at a thousand times, but never paid much attention to. Attached to a bolt on the coil bracket plate, there's a little cylindrical thing, about 1" long and as thick as a AA battery. It has one wire coming out of it that goes to a spade-connection on the distributor, next to the main plug. And it has another other wire coming out of it that terminates in a male-bullet connector, but isn't currently connected to anything.

Long ago, I installed a Crane ignition/coil, and I'm assuming I disconnected that little cylinder during the process. But it's been so long, I have no idea what that thing was connected to, or what it did. I tried checking the service manual, but couldn't offhand find out what it is/does. So does anyone what that thing does with the distributor and/or what it's supposed to be connected to?

It's a condensor to reduce RF interference. It connects from the coil harness to the bottom of the distrib housing. It's not needed w/ the 280zxt ecu, but I remember someone saying it does help w/ the Z31 ecu... then again, you aren't using the stock coil anymore...

So is it basically a noise filter? Should I still hook it up to the coil? I do have an MSD noise filter connected to my Crane already, so would it be redundant you thinK?
