How long has your car been undriveable?

How long has it taken to get your car driveable?

My 280ZXT has been under the knife since January 12th, 2005.

Undriveable for 18 months, 10 days and counting...

Who can beat that?

My Z was out from Sept 05 to July 06, till I decided to do the Z31T ecu swap. It drives now, but still not registered.

I posted this so people working on long term projects will see how long the rest of us have been working on them and not get discouraged when they run into trouble. The best thing to do, is walk away for a few days, recharge your mental batteries and come back when your in a better mood.

So far, we have:

> 2 Years = 1
> 1.5 < 2 Years = 1
> 1 < 1.5 Years = 0
> .5 < 1 Years = 1
< .5 Years = 0

Feel free to add yourself to the list.

I'm taking a break to paint my house and get the new Heater and AC installed in my garage.

With 110+ deg days here in 'sunny' Northern California, that AC is gonna save my ***... literally...

Now I Really Feel Bad!

i got my 81zx easter weekend of "99". other than faded carpet and one crack in the dash, the interior was perfect. the only rust on the car is a half dollar size hole on the lower rear quarter, one small spot on the lft front fender. tan interior with a straight black body. it's a smooth top gl coupe.
but anyway, all it needed when i got it was brakes all around. it had been stored in a barn since 1993, came out of california. i keep puttering with it but it has yet to see the street.
7 years and sitting on jack stands.

BJ

My Z was down from Jan 2004 to March 2005 which is the first time since I bought the car in 1996 that it was undriveable for more than a couple days.

Then I did my turbo swap and it was off the road for about 1.5 weeks! ha!

Iv been working on my car since I bought it in December of 2004. Its been on the road here and there but for only about a week at a time. Once Im done with what Im doing right now I should be done for this year. So mines been off the road for about a year and 7months if you dont include the weeks here and there.

Bout a month and a half after it was stolen, plus the year and a half for the 1st resto and paint job. but i had another daily driver at that point.
i had to put a new diff, replace squashed exhaust, source tons of new parts and replace most of the suspension bushings all due to the joy ride the thieves took . . .bastards.

Well let's see, I will start with my '82 first. I got him in Oct. '03 for $200. He sat pretty much until February this year. So let's see, Oct. '03-Feb. '06. And that also doesn't count the time, he sat until I rescued him from certain fate. I would say total, he sat from '99 to '06. Not counting the quick drive of 6 miles, limping on his last leg. Only to be put down for many many months. So 2 years 3 months with me. And then add another 4 years or so, before I got him.

Longest I think for me was probably 2 weeks. Then my Turbo is on and off. It's driveable, but I don't really "drive" it unless I'm testing out something I've done to it. I'm trying to get it to run perfect. Then it'll be time for body work.

The whole time I owned my Z.

Had her for just under two years. Yeah, since June 2004. So about 20 months.

Purchased my black pearl in June of 2003 and started disassembling it the same day. I've been on re-assembly since spring March of 2005, with a roughly 3 month break for a kitchen renovation. Supposed to get the head back from the machinist tomorrow. Yet to do: dashboard, seats and harnesses, rear suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. Hope to finish it while the weather's still good for driving this year...
