Hey Rod, where'd you buy the wheels?

Or anyone else with 18x8's for that matter. I can't seem to find any clean wheels in that size. I love the gunmetal Primax Sportmax wheels MSA sells, but they're 18x7.5. I can't fit 245/35 on a 7.5 inch wide wheel, can I?

I've been browsing and searching for this info for several hours and picked up a lot of good information about what fits on my 81 zx, but I can't find anywhere to buy them now.

Also if you know of something else you think would be better for me, I need all the traction I can get while keeping it streetable (no slicks.) I've got a Chevy motor making somewhere around 400hp. I'm about to buy new suspension (don't know what kind yet) and new wheels and tires. I'd like to keep the wheels/tires combo under $2k. Purchasing the Modern Motorsports Honda adapter is an option if that's what it takes. I'm thinking about Yokohama S.drive 245/35/ZR18 tires if I can find the 18x8's, or if someone more knowledgeable than myself tells me those 18x7.5's will work. I'm still in Iraq right now so I won't be buying til around November or December.

Thanks in advance.

I think Rod has 18x7 and runs 245 width tires.

What I can't believe is that you can't find 8 inch width... I could hardly find any in 7 inch width at 18" diameter. They'are all 8 to 9.5 or 10 inch wide only.

I got mine from Discount Tire (America's Tire Co) http://www.tires.com
I know a store manager so I got a deal on them but they are NLA now.
I'm actually about to put my old set of 18's up for sale with the tires but I 'only' had 225 width tires.

Bleach is correct, they are 18x7 and I do run 245/35ZR18's on them.

I have adaptors, but they are custom made and not from Moder Motorsports.

If you buy adaptors, you can buy what ever wheels you want... Just don't get the same thing I have please.

Haha. No worries, Rod. I'm in love with the solid 5 spoke design. I think that's why I'm having trouble finding them. Did your tires' specs say it was okay to run them on 7 inch wheels? The Yokohama S.drive that I like say recommended width is 8-9.5 inches, but if they'll work on 7.5 I am definitely already set on the combo I'm getting.

No, my tires didn't "say" anything... After all, they are tires and can not speak.

The recommended rim width for the tires I run is 8.5-9.5 inches.

I don't beleive everything I read.

After 15 years or so of being in that industry, I have a pretty good idea of what will and will not work. 245 is a bit wide for the wheel. but not adversely or dangerously so.

Tires can't talk? You might be surprised someday. I thought the same thing about cars until I bought my first Z.

Seriously though, thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

I will be holding you fully responsible if my new tires blow up and destroy my car though. Just so you know. :-P

Which is EXACTLY why I never directly answer questions like the one this thread is based on... I usually don't respond at all.

I don't recommend or condone doing anything to your car that I have done to mine.

Have fun with it though, and thanks for your service in Iraq
