83 280zxt running rough

I just purchased an 83 280zxt and the car is running pretty rough. The engine is missing and i assume that would have to due with incorrect timing. Also, the car will drive but, not accelerate very well. When i push on the gas.The car has no power. It seems like the engine dosen't want to rev.The owner didn't have clue what was wrong with car.Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Welcome to ZDriver!

Check all the basics... timing, vacuum leaks, a/f ratio, spark splugs, cap and rotor, sensor connections (especially the TPS, AFM, and CHTS), and ecu plugs.

the engine is missing? well, you need an engine in the car first. Then check your timing. 20 deg BTDC should do.

Yes, the engine is in the car.By missing, i meant it will seem to run fine, then run sluggish.I did put new plugs, dizzy cap,and rotor.

I actually read it the same way bleach did, then I realized that you meant it had a miss.

Sorry, i shouldv'e worded my post a little better.Anyway, cleaned all connectors, unplugged the ecu plugs 8 times.Checked the afm and the flapper is opening. The car does run better then before.I think the timing is off.

I am new at this guys so, please don't give me a hard time. The search feature is helping me out big time.

Take off the kick panel cover by your left foot.

When driving the car, grab the wiring bundle and wiggle it a bit while on the gas.

Most likely, the car will accelerate like it should temporarily.
