HEAD IS BACK ON WOO HOO and I screwed up!
Got the head back on to-nite! Didn't drop the tensioner !!!
How ever sadly I f-ed up. 1st My "how to rebuild your 2.8" Guide book failed me Tourqe pattern was listed as "Head removal" and install is "opposite of diagram"
Well I tightened the head down outward going to center. Which another diagram
showed tightening from center out.
The second frigging retarded thing I did was rush "worrying over cam gear"
Where I tighten all bolts to 20 ft lbs then I hopped directly to 62ft lbs HA HA NO SNAPPED BOLTS.
I really hope this is not a big deal! Now to decide if I need a new gasket and head bolts or to say the hell with it and finish n see If I leak

Oh no nothing Broke saw a lot of posts saying they snapped the head bolts. I re-tapped the 10mm holes and thoroughly cleaned them before installing the old head bolts that I also chased and scrubbed. Good note to add!
So I just back them off to "broke free" and step them 20-40-61. This wont crimp the gasket thought a head gasket was a one time deal. Its a felpro....
Can I leave the cam sprocket on "hate that damn thing"
And lastly is the head bolts good for a 3rd torquing?
Thanks alot man!

Are you using oil or thread lube on the head bolts?
Just loosen them to the point where you can turn them with your fingers, then re-tighten. Don't freaking touch or move the head or cam sprocket... just loosen, and re-torque.

The only weird thing that happened : Next to the coil there is a lil diode That plugs into the black wire going to the distributor. Well the wire broke off going from it.
Didn't really think it mattered hooked into the wire from the harness by passing it.
It started smoking up my fuse link luckily. I pulled the neg battery cable in time.
I always thought That wire was a ground for the distributor? And that diode was I silencer for the radio. Keep the rev noises out of the speakers if that makes any sense .
Or is it some form of capacitor? Ill take pics if needed.
