exhaust

alright when i find a job i think the first thing i am gonna do is the exhaust on my car, the intake/exhaust gasket needs replacing and i have a leak which isnt fun in the winter but its not huge either....yet

gonna do headers and openup the pipe a little bit and a new muff but i got 2 questions:

#1 my catalytic converter is gone, there a nice shiny new pipe in its place. i did a ***** and grins emmisions test and it still passes (go fig) so i was wondering if i put a small glass pack in its place would it hurt my performance at all and would it help my popping sounds?

#2 will i see any decrease/increase in mpg's?

i am not sure what to get for a muff though, i want something decent but i dont want the car to sound like a pissed off bee when i drive arround town, quiet but not hurt performance is what i am after

Glasspacks = ghey (unless it's on some old truck... and when I say "old" I mean OLD).

Is your car turbo? I had a test pipe and a straight through fart can on my 280zxt and it sounded good.

Just remember that na engines usually like some backpressure. 2.5" exhaust without a cat and 1 regular muffler will probably be your best bet for performance if you're na that is.

its a little smaller than 2 1/2 inch at the moment and no its not a turbo.

and its not going to be solely glasspack so i dont know how "ghey" its gonna be

How many Supras / Skylines / 300zxs / Corvettes / Porches / Lotus / etc do you see using glasspacks? Get the idea?

I would disagree. The exhaust note of the six cylnder L28 with a header and glasspack alone is something to be admired. Loud as hell, but its sounds beautiful. Its something about Nissans straight six that just has that alluring quality. A perfect blend between the 4 banger and small block tone range

I agree with you man. I have a glasspack and header on my Z. And I love the way it sounds. It has that bassy roadster sound.

none because they need catalytic converters for emissions

I had a custom bent exhaust made (I think it was 80 bucks all together? and A cherrybomb type II that I threw on it. It sounds really really good. and not like a ricer weedwhacker. I think it cost me $120 all together

yea i am not going to go stainless steel, regular pipe lasts a while is you live in places that dont use salt or isnt overly costal humid all the time.

but i am going to go with a short glasspack to fit into the cat area and a decent flowing muffler along with the headers, i'm guessing i am probally lookin at something arround $200 or so for a decent set up, theres a guy that does real good exhaust work for a good price so i am gonna go to him.

You mentioned the Cherry Bomb type ll. Can't find it. They have vortex, elite, pro and glass pack. Is type ll one of thoose I just listed?
Since I have to replce my muffler, I am looking for a muffler that will give my 280 n/a a great sound but not ricy or to loud.

Hey I`m running a glasspack on my 260 , mostly cause I needed to get the exhaust back and out from under the drivers seat, otherwise I would have no muffler at all.

my guess is that it would run lean, less resistance more air... maybe if anything

I was going to say I've read a whole bunch of posts mentioning that on turbo cars the less restriction the better. I think there was a discussion about this on HybridZ with the wideband O2s saying that it also helps be less of an exhaust restriction for turbos by setting the sensor more downstream.
