Excited!

Well, I have been gone such a long time away from home, working etc. Recently I got a new job where I can work in the other province but live here at home! Now granted my expenses will go up since im taking over the house, but i will be around for 2 weeks off at a time, next to my z! As soon as I start this new rotation I have to see how my account levels off with all the bills and then the play money is going straight into the car.

I
CANT
WAIT!!!!

Awesome Skully! I was wondering when you would start working on the Z again. Now we can see some progress more often. Keep it up, and good luck man.

Meh... I kid about it... but if I was offered the right price, I would sell it. I drive it probably 60 minutes a year.

hehe, just ordered a clutch kit and a flywheel, nothing special but it will get the engine in the bay, thats the only thing i need to put her in.

in the meanwhile..
I looked in the bay I want to gut all the harness out, since I wont be using stock ecu, I have to trace which wires are for gauges lights etc and which is all the ecu crap...so many wires!

Well gutted out the old ecu and pulled the harness off, still an asston of wiring left in there, I hate wiring, does anyone have a simplified wiring diagram just for the harness for gauges, headlights, washers, injector fan etc etc so I can keep ripping stuff out? I was trying to follow the whole wiring schematic and just go crosseyed

Thanks!!

just leave the compenents in the car you want to keep. then start by peeling all the loom off the harness and tape. find the ends of the connectors you dont want and pull them back thru the harness to where ever they terminate. no diagram needed really. id get the car running first, that way you can remove all the stuff you dont want and run the car to make sure it didnt effect anything. dont wanna remove something that makes the car run then scratch your head wondering what happened. i just did ms on my car, took out the ecu harness. on the pass side where the fusable links are is a plug, turns out the ecu partly controls the ignition relay, so i had no power to the coil!!! i traced it for an hour or so.

Thanks both, ill get that downloaded. Shady, all im gonna use is the gauges, everything to run the motor will be added on, I have msns and harness made. I might have to pull the dash again then and see whats not needed, you dont need ac, injector fan, hood light, etcetc to run the engine :P. I did notice the same plug and fusible links are hooked into it, it goes into ignition and ecu that must be what you are reffering to. How was ms to set up for ya?

edit: just wanna clean up the bay before putting the engine in thats all.

Thanks a lot skittle!!! The wiring in the FSM is so much easier to follow because it breaks down each section instead of looking at the whole car at one! Thanks again this is gonna make life way easier

ms so far was ok, still cant get this thing to run. when the harness comes out for the stock ecu it controls fuel pump relay #1 and if you add power to the black w/white it fires up the fuel pump. my mallory dizzy i got seems to be not sending a signal to the ms. im replacing the optical unit inside becuase i think its screwed. i tested it and its got nothing when mounted, but work out of the car, so i think it has a short. ill see how the new one works. a bit frustrating not having it even burp and run.

Soooo got home finaly, garage is full of crap i need to clean badly..

no shes not in yet.

BUT, I went out and ordered a starter, and totally forgot to get an oil pump, so ordered that bad boy too. I looked everywhere for fuse blocks, I swear when you ask someone they get a blank stare. So I went to wallmart and bought individual ones, bolted them and wired them in, just gotta finish wiring to the car now. Threw the alternator on and engine mounts, and some coolant fittings, gotta drill and tap the thermostat housing to fit the GM temp sensor.

Tomorrow I am going to rent an engine hoist and attempt to throw this thing back in. Then start the wiring and getting the MS running and other odds and ends while i wait for starter and the oil pump.

some pics

fusible links to maxi fuse.
