EGR Removal

Hey guys!

Still in the middle of removing the intake and exhaust on my car. And.. I'm stuck. I cannot remove the EGR tube(or whatever it's called) for the life of me. Been spraying it with PB Blaster for a week now and still nothing. Part of the reason may be the size of my wrench.. the only one I've gotten to fit is a 15/16ths but it's a bit too big and slides off easyish. I went out and bought a 23mm wrench and it just barely barely doesn't work. I am considering going online and buying a 29/32 size wrench but I don't know if that will fit either.

How did you guys pull yours off, and if you don't remember the size could you check what you used? Or maybe I a doing this entirely wrong. I am trying to unscrew the nut with the threads on the intake side. Can't reach the exhaust side well(downpipe seems to be in the way). I am wrenching to the right (counter-clockwise) because it looks like that nut threads into the bigger side on the tube.

Thank you and I hope I'll have this stupid thing off soon!

I just used my 1" crescent wrench... came off like a champ. I've removed 3 or 4 down pipes that way.

pipe wrench? also, worst case(if this is the egr/exhaust pipe) bolt cutters or somthing, cut/crimp the **** out of the line, and weld closed

i welded a dime into the pipes of my ka manifold very ghetto, but effective...

LOL that's exactly what I was gonna say.
A nice set of bolt cutters will get it off nicely, and I personally welded a nickel not a dime over the hole in the exhaust manifold and then crimped and welded the pipe coming from the intake manifold because I couldn't unscrew that one. Looks like you spent 5 cents more than I did :P

Haha well I'll give it a shot again tonight hopefully.

I don't plan on destroying the thing because I've heard it's not good for emissions and in my state that's important! We'll have to see though.

Oh yeah, I didn't see that you were in Cali. They are ***** out there with emissions. In my state cars over 25 years old are exempt. What's that mean? No EGR, not cats, no PCV... Plenty of pollution coming from my engine. Then again my whole state isn't half the population of LA alone so I suppose you guys need all the emissions laws you can get.

Haha well I live up in the mountains with a town of probably 1,500 people max.

You don't remove that first... you remove the compression flange nut to the left of it, then remove that double male connector...

As in this thing? I didn't realize it rotated..

Unless you're talking about something else, in which case I am lost because I can't feel or see any nuts under there haha.

Yes, as in that thing (facepalm).

Look at the other end... it rotates too.

Haha well I couldn't really seem to get to the other end!

Oh well I think I got it if not all the way then most of the way off. Breaking it loose took more strength than I knew I had in me! (I'm a skinny motherf*cker haha)

The damn thing has a hell of a lot of threads holding it in though. Oh and I puled my seats out today! Found about $4 and a Spiderman DVD

That pic is of an L28 egr tube no? Then it's the same on on your car (just more rusty).

So it's now most of the way off because you have now removed / loosened that compression fitting?

Well yes I know but when I tried a couple times I couldn't get the wrench to stay on the exhaust end. The downpipe would just knock it off.

Either way yeah, the reason I say most of the way off is that it got dark and I went inside before I finished haha. I'm sick and have a fever right now so I am kinda not up to too much work
